Limited basis?...You are probably thinking of our kit, AKA Ramco VTEC Conversion. We build frames and components for the B series motor that fit left-hand-drive Minis only, and are working on one for the D series(single cam). If you are able to pick up in Ca we can build you a frame; but no more shipped frames please. You will need a lot more than the frame though...inc special hybrid axles, Pedal box, special radiator & electric fan, tube exhaust header and 2" pipe/muffler, Hybrid wiring harness including a Honda VTEC ECU, High pressure fuel pump/filter with bigger feed line, Honda or other electronic gauges, etc. For references, go to minivtec.com. Most of the guys there have the Ramco kit and they will be happy to talk to you about theirs. To view the kit components on that site, go to my profile page(Steve) and scroll down to the photo albums. The entire build can easily be done for 8K US, including motor/trans, if you do it yourself, but expect it to take up to a year, depending on your schedule. The record so far is 2 months, working day/night with help from his family/friends.

A guy in town has a Vtec SOHC he did the motor super inexpensive, he spent the money on the Subframe and the axle parts. So seemed to me that was the biggest cost was the subframe and axles.
I 'm not thinking of doing anything but the A series Mini motors, but down the road who knows if the right car came about?

Minimike in Canada built a couple from the regular Mini frame using the D series single cam engine, a guy on the East coast of Florida (Vern) did one in an Elf. The guys in Trinidad put all sorts of Japanese engines into Mini's using the Mini front sub frame.

Does anyone sell a V-tech subframe or modify the existing subframes, I seem to remember someone was doing that on a limited basis. New ones are soooo expensive!
SirCoop
If you think just the subframe is too expensive you need to look for a different project.  utting a Honda engine in your Mini is gonna cost you way more than just what the subframe costs. I'm thinking the project will set you back at least $17 large, but I could be wrong (as I have never built one) but from what I've heard that might be a good estimate.
