I have a 998 A series block, and have to see if the stuff I have is compatible since it came from different places.  Since I have never built an A series I will need to do the resaerch to see what I have then get the right drop gears and idler gear. I have the housings and think they are the small bearing ones.

Well, what exactly do you have? The transmission you describe is basically the same stuff as any 4 synchro remote or sandwich mount item, and apart from requiring either a 1300 or small bore primary gear there isn't anything fancy to think about.

Do you need a primary gear, idler, input gear plus fasteners, plus thrusts for the primary gear? In other words, everything? This will be most profitable for the shipping companies.

Do you need a useable idler gear? This would be simplest. It would come with thrust washers, and you could measure it and think that maybe you would like to get the clearance down, then getting thicker thrusts would become a hassle, then, well, you could just do what most people do and put the thing together as you have it.

Whats the difference in drop gears?  Is it the gear and matching idler gear?

I need to find some for a 998 for the rod change with the small bearing on the housing I guess.
