With the tape on the gutter (not drip rail ), holding tape against the roof, the outer part of the mounting flange is 18 5/8"  ( luckily equal both sides )

32.75" from front gutter...centre

Alex,

I do not know exactly where, but from various pictures it appears to be just behind the roof crossmember that supports the rear of the headliner.

Since my later model van did not come with one, I figure I have leeway to install how ai want. I am considering installing two: one about the factory position, the other at the rear.

I managed to pick up two NOS Leyland roof vents a while back (both are spoken for I'm afraid) but we're trying to work out exactly where to place them on the cars.

Would it be possible for one of you kind fellows to chuck a tape measure across your roof and post the results ?

In the UK market it was probably there to let the condensation out which seemed a bigger problem on my van moreso that a Mini saloon which was not that great either. It was common to see Mini dashes and door pockets with rags on/in them to help clear the windows.

It is my understanding that the factory van vent was intended to allow hot air to be drawn out.

I have also seen several of the "swamp cooler" style "a/c" systems - from the DYI ice chest based to commercial grade for small aircraft.

Probably more help if the vent was strong enough to face forward, i don't remember much air coming into my van from that vent but a fan under it may help pull air in or push hot air out. A swamp coller may help on the really hot days or take out the sliders altogether in the Summer as i did in my pick up. Aussie doors or a/c is the best answer but not the cheapest for sure.

Those roof vents were over rated, not much help, maybe just physiological, just get a sardine can and jam it in the hole LOL-

Tim,

Thanks for the feedback. Knowing it will fit is the key element I was looking for.

It will fit.  I have rib roof van with the factory hole for the roof vent (I just don't have the vent yet -  this is a long term project).  Sorry I can't help with the vent size, and my van is stacked up in the shed, so no easy way to measure the hole for you either.

Tim.

What are the dimensions (length, width) of the factory roof vent from the early panel vans?

I have a later model with the "ribbed" roof and would like to consider adding one of the factory style vents for improving the air circulation. (I live in south Texas.) I want to determine if it will fit the wide center rib.

Thanks, M. Playle
