If you are stopped by PD, you will have to answer to why they are different. If the Mini is registered out of California, you will have problems if you are a Calif. resident.

With government computer record keeping, you can consider any contact with any government agency in Calif. that a Calif. address anywhere in your records will cause trouble.

have fun,

Unless you are active duty military.  If so, you can keep your cars registered in the home of record state regardless of where you actually live.

You can afaik register it in any State except California. NC and FL have got a lot stricter with their regulations lately but as long as everything matches and the car is a true 1984 there should not be a problem registering it.

From what I've read on this forum... it simply cannot be done with a 1984 Mini.

You can search this forum using the search function and you will find a treasure trove of info that you will spend many hours reading.  Read it all!  It will enlighten you.

Some will advise you to sell it out of state, and buy one that is already legally registered in Calif.

Good luck!

It will require more than a million dollars to legally register your car in California since it is newer than 1967 (pun).

If you have the million, pick any other state to live in.

Some of the southern states are particularly good for registering a Mini.

Try either of the Carolinas or Florida.

Have fun,

Russ

Hi there, this is my first post, I recently purchased an 84 mini beautiful, I got all the paperwork of the import from from the UK. The million dollar question is how I can register the car in CA, and/or in what State I can register the car? I appreciate your help!
