It has a lot of the right S stuff present.

the shroud is all flat metal but with a lipped edge. Go find someone local and look at a MK 1 2 or 3 and take some pix and make cardboard templates when the time comes.

it's amazing what things you start to remember when you start working on your car after 30 yrs.
i look at some things and just go WTF, did i do that? i remember walking into that body shop.
a friend at the time said "my buddies have a body shop", and i jumped at that figuring i'd get a good
price. learned then you get what you pay for. MM told me i can get a new stamped VIN plate if i fax
them a copy of my old registration.i'll put on a new shroud to proudly display that.lol

If they poked a hole in the radiator while putting on A panels, they probably hacked off the radiator surround from the inner fender when they installed the radiator. You know they couldn't bother to find the screws holding the fan shroud on or go to the trouble of changing out the radiator properly.

ya know mike, in the past 30 yrs it's been garaged and i never even looked at it cuz it was kinda
buried. moved down to FL in august and had the mini brought down in a carrier. i'm just startin to tear it down to restore it.
hopefully i can afford to, but there is so much i've forgotten about the car. i gotta find a pic of an engine compartment of
a mk 1 and maybe it will jar my memory about what happened to the shroud. i could have done something stupid to it.
i do remember that a body shop i had putting in hinge panels put an air chisel thru my radiator. walked in to check on it
and there was a huge puddle under the car.i happened to have a new radiator and they put it in for me. but i know i have
done some dumb things to it, but hey , blame it on my youth. thanx for the help and the eagle eye.

someone hacked the top of the radiator shroud that is part of the inner wing, rad side of course. that is where the vine tag would have been. You might want to add something back in there to help exhaust the air from the rad. I do think it's important to keeping the car running cool' ish.
looks very S. Right brake master, can't see much on the engine, but chrome drop link, and stick.
Good job. You're in CT. I'm on LI. When you get it running, you can shake it down driving down for visit if you like.

the FE # I think is of no use. The factory used these to track the bodies I believe. (actually can't remember) but no records were kept for the FE numbers.
Your vin tag, when you get it remade will attach with 2 phillips head screws on the inner wing flat of the radiator shroud. You should see the 2 mounting holes for the screws. make sure when you buy the tag they include the screws.

Are you gonna paint it to look like McQueen's Mini?

Do you have a title for it? If so, you can have a new VIN plate made for it. This is the guy I used for mine.

hey mike, what's the FE# tell. it has or had all the stuff you list.
last thing i was working on was the wet to dry conversion, back in the early
80"s. once i get the subframes out i'll finish up with that.

How are you sure it's an S engine without an engine #
Does it have tappet chest covers, 1275 head with extra stud / bolt etc.
pictures man :-)

well low and behold i found my old registration from 83, so that should help .the vin # and the body # indicate to me that it is what i bought it as.
i just don't trust the schmuck i bought it from.i read some stuff online about him and his business and it was full of hate. i realize it's the internet
but it was full of the stuff that i felt back then. there's no VIN # plate that i have found yet and no i.d. plate on the engine, but i already checked
and it's a 1275 "s" engine. missing ID stuff makes ya wonder.
