just do a pencil rubbing of the FE #.  do you care to post some pix of the car?  We can ID the S components rather easily.

take a pic of the dash/speedo cluster.  Also you should have a chrome drop link on the steering column and the stick shift should be chrome.

There's tons more stuff.

Have you ever seen the book, The Original Mini Cooper and Cooper S?  by John Parnell.  Great book for enthusiasts.

On the engine, dizzy should be mechanical, not vacuum advance. Cyl Head should have a bolt/nut right and left side of valve cover with

notches in the valve cover.  Brake booster still in place?  Wet suspension still in place?  Twin 1 1/4" su carbs in place?

Over the years, lots of S's were canabalized and changed for other stuff.  ie: single carb.  converted to dry suspension, removal of brake booster. etc.

Does your car have twin gas tanks? What pattern and color are the seats?

aha ...the registration. well, according to the license plate the last date of registration

was in aug.of 85. i let the registration run out as it was being stored away as life was in full swing.

been looking for the actual registration card...it looks bleak at the moment.lol

What's the VIN on your registration? If you're uncomfortable giving out this info just tell us the prefix letters and numbers.

OK.. but a piece of fine wet and dry is the safest and cleanest way to reveal the number.  Its stamped into the plate so if you sand all the way down to bare metal you will be left with the paint in the grooves of the stamping which will highlight the number...

If you have the plate you will have the Body Number - just sand the paint off the plate.

And, with that number you can get the build details from British Heritage that will identify the model, build date, colour and specifications of your car - and of course the Chassis number which is as close as they got to a VIN in those days....

Cheers, Ian

For 65 MkI it should be readily visible on the top of the rad shroud. There should be an FE number on the inner fender just above the VIN plate. The FE number is somewhat useless but it should be there. There should be a body number on a rectangular plate spot welded to the slam cross member where the hood closes. This article will tell you what you have.

If its a65 Austin Cooper S the VIN should start with a C. If its a 65 Morris Cooper S the ViN should start with a K.

Look for the VIN plate somewhere under the hood.

What year,MK, market and model is the car

Some are on the slam panel, some on the rad shroud, later ones on the windscreen pillar...and so on
