Maybe related to the carb piston damping springs, maybe mismatched or too light. Its the only thing I can think of.

Got the Traveller out of the garage and got her ready for spring. Fresh gas, oil change, set valves, etc. and also installed the Pertronix and 3 OHM coil. Runs better than it has in the 23 years I have owned it! One issue it has always had is still there. In 3rd or 4th gear, it wants to "surge" or "buck" under light acceleration or during deceleration. It pulls fine in those gears, so applying power speeds you up and takes away the bucking. Any ideas? I swear it lessened when I richened the carbs, but plugs tell me the mixture is good and carbs seem to be in sinc. 1963 Morris Traveller 1275 with rod-change. Trans is Gold seal from 7 (previous owner-2) engine was a rebuilt unit sourced thru 7 in VA (CTR you listening?) twin HS2's on what I suspect is a Midget intake - carb rake is wrong and I had to modify the spacers to keep off the firewall. Not sure about needles but carb seat adjusters are turned almost completely out

Ideas?

Thanks!!
