I value the small amount of space that the shelf provides, so I took my dremel and carved out a pair of small, cheap surface mount boxes and installed a pair of 3½" Polk DB351 just below the shelf and at a slight upward angle.  I lined the boxes with a small amount of glass wool; sounds great, didn't cost a fortune and doesn't impede entry into the vehicle.  An added benefit is that the cheap surface mount boxes aren't going to impress anyone looking for sound equipment.

In the rear, I've got a pair of Clarion 6 x 9 multiaxial 3-ways.

I made these speaker boxes for the parcel shelf out of particle board. I do have a small table saw to do the compound angle cuts, The speakers are Clarion.

The styling of those isn't my cup of tea. Sorry, but to me they look like centre binnacles that got left in the sun and went soft.

If you're looking for discreet speakers, I'd consider small but quality computer accessory speakers.

If you want sound power then The Source (formerly Radio Shack) has stuff like this  Speakers    good for 120Watts

or Ceiling Speakers  good for only 80 watts.

(If you want power and concert hall sound, then get a bigger car!)

Radio shack may be alive and well living in Canada under the name "The Source", but you should bea ble to get these kinds of speakers antwhere. Pretty good bet they aren't made in Canada.

At one point I would have said Radio Shack, but they are no longer in business.

Try a search for "surface mount speakers" and you should get results.

Does anyone know where I can get a pair of these stereo speakers that fit on the dash?
