Miguel:

How thick is the existing glass? The diameter is not too critical - some expansion/fitting space would have been considered, but thickness would be more critical for the fastenings, bezel fitting or seals (if any).

(If I had time, and I knew where my glass cutter is hidden, I'd try cutting a disk.)

, Ive got a speedo- it's from an early 850 car. I broke it badly mechanically  - playing with it - Seeing if i could learn how to get the ODO apart safely to fix my moke ODO.

The bezel is not pretty- the inner ring comes out -the glass is intact.

My 66 Moke has has glass that is curved inward toward the needle.

This glass is - Curved outward from the needle. ( i wouldnt see why not flipping it) - or flat. glass makes a difference. WOuldnt flat glass offer more glare?

This glass is probably pretty stuck to the bezel - but with some love would probably come free-

Your's if you want it- Just give me some bucks for Shipping.. USA to Canada RIght? - Its a gift!

Dr Mini, ermmm, I don't know if the glass on the moke was originally curved, however the one it had was flat. My 68 Moke was also flat.

jeg, I found that website. I sent him an email two days ago as the descriptions on the website are not very clear. However I am still waiting for a reply.

I believe this is the glass, but I am not 100% sure.

Miguel, If you have a little wheel Moke it should have the curved glass instead of flat.  FWIW, the curved glass on UK Moke speedos are curved out where the sedans (850) had convex.  Both are the same glass, just inverted.

Yes, I know glass is cheap. However they seem to charge it as if it was made out of a rare metal.

Might have found a place that stocks the glass and bezels for different Smiths units in the UK. Let's see if they answer my email.

Glass is cheap. I seriously doubt it would even cost you ten bucks to get a piece cut.

If it is convex, try local clock repair shops - watch repair shops have an assortment of watch crystals (face glass) to repair just about any watch. Clock repair shops may have the same.

If you get a glass shop to cut a flat disk, make sure the thickness corresponds to the original - I thought about using laminated safety glass but it may be too thick for the speedometer case and trim.

Wow! Just learned something new. You can go online and buy curved glass to just about any size you want. One place I found is this one: //www.clockworks.com/clock-parts/clock-dials-bezels.html

There's also a bunch of different ones on Ebay.

We are talking about the slightly concave / vex glass ?

If so I have some spares - but I'm in the UK.

If you can cover the postage I'll send one to you.

As above.  Use a glass shop to cut a new disk if flat.  If this is an early domed glass speedometer, go onlineand buy a piece of domed glass for a clock.  Some glass is available from sources in the U.K. like Auto Electrical Spares.

Assuming it comes apart, just take it to a glass shop and have a new one cut.

Don't ask how...

Anyhow, I managed to break the glass on the Moke's Smiths Speedometer.

By any chance, does anyone has a glass piece that I could buy? Or where could I get it without buying a new speedometer?

Thank you!

Miguel
