I brought the camera home from the garage today, so I've got pictures of my green MSC 1:3 roller tips.  They're showing some wear, but I've had them since 2000.

One interesting thing I noticed is that the difference between the 1.5 rocker and the 1.3 rocker appears to be all in the roller tip. The body of the rocker and the rocker geometry appear to be the same except for the size of the roller. I did not measure with a caliper, but I was able to place them side by side.

I've not fitted them to an engine yet, there is a set in the garage sat on top of Tubbs' new engine, a set in the workshop waiting to go onto Betty when I get a spare couple of hours, and a set under my desk wating for the Hornet engine build to start.

This is the only photo I have of them so far.

I had a tool box stolen years ago and I had a brand new high lift roller rocker set up IN the tool box, I'm sure the thief found it and thought "What the hell is this !?!" and tossed it in the trash.

This looks very interesting, add to my wish list.

Hey John, I sent Keith a message on FB about the 1.4's, he sent me a link which wouldn't open. Didn't want to bother him, what are the 1.4 rocker set w/followers going to cost ?

They do look nice.

Too soon to review Alex ?

I don't know if you've seen them in his webshop, but yeah, they do look good.  At £247.98 + post, it's just a matter of time 'til I scrape together a bit of cash and grab a set.

I believe the rockers will be in the $650- $700 range, but I am not sure.

When I ordered mine, I was not concerned about price. That does not include the followers.

I am wondering if many of the issues attributed to the high-lift rockers a few years ago were actually due to the improperly profiled followers.

My camshafts from previous builds on other engines looked alot like the one in this picture:

//calverst.com/news_items/camfollowerwoes.htm

Interestingly enough the cam from the most recent engine is being reused in a current build and that had the Titan 1.5s on it for over 40K miles.

I had an early SW5i with the pointy lobes that barely lasted 10K miles.

Alex:

There are some benefits to being in the UK and owning a Mini and knowing Mr. Calver.

I am waiting to see a set in person. It should be soon.

I received these in the mail recently. I had a few posts about rocker woes and in light of comments about vendors I wanted to update.

I have purchased from most every Mini vendor in the USA at one or another and many in the UK. Even in the 70s when BMC was a somewhat alive company, it was difficult getting parts. Many relied on Mini City in the early days with their yellow flyers. For some reason I never got wind of Mini Mania back then, even though I must have seen Don autocross at Pleasanton on more than one occasion.

For me it is about customer service.

I purchased a set of 1.3 full roller rockers direct from Mini Spares as no one in the US had them in stock. Did not use the engine that they were installed on until a few months ago. Found a problem.

Many years ago I purchased a set of Titan full roller rockers from Mini Mania. After many miles of service I broke a rocker and needed a replacement.

To make a long story short(because I am full of hot air) Simon at Mini Spares secured from Titan replacements for both the 1.3 and 1.5 sets. It may have taken a while with a few bumps in the process, but I have replacements.

That is customer service.

Terry

PS: Chris this means I may be able to send you a rocker as the pins appear to be the same for the 1.5 and 1.3.
