You are right, this is bizarre. Looks like someone messed up the drain plug, and then devised a bracket to push against the plug to keep it tight. I have no idea what's going to happen when I have to change the oil. I don't even want to take the chance. Something I totally overlooked when I bought the car. Is there another way to drain the oil?

That looks like something is wrong with the sump plug - there should be a gert big coarse threaded plug there, with a copper sealing washer and a magnetic trap on the back.

I was looking under the car and found this bolt shown in the picture right under the lower engine stabilizer, (the long skinny horizontal bolt) and was not even screwed in. Is this for providing support to the bracket that holds the stabilizer or something?
