anything special or stock head, appears to be ported atleast intake port does.

what is a fair price for this head?

You really need to know what the specs are on this head you are looking at. Do you have pix of it? What are the inlet and exhaust valve sizes? Does it look to be ported? What is the condition of it?

There is something very cool about original bits like this BUT I cant say it would be worth. If you are interested in outright performance (getting the most out of your car) you would be better off having a head built to the spec that would get you want you want.

What motor would this be going on?

would it be worth buying the john cooper head for cheap and get rid of the stock one i have??

998 Cooper Kits were originally destined for the japanese market but were also generally availlable through Cooper Garages at Sussex, UK.

 

Later, when Rover also reinvented the 1275 Cooper, Cooper Garages developed and sold a "S" Kit for these cars. At the beginning, these kits voided the Rover warranty but, later on became a dealer fit option and did no longer void the waaranty. These kits were even TUV approved in Germany.

 

The Kits consisted of a reworked head (Janspeed, but unsure of the spec) which was marked besides the thermostat housing with "COOPERxxxxHC". The xxxx stands for the serial number of the kit, beginning with 0001 and on.

Matching needle for the carburettor.

LCB exhaust manifold

Janspeed Exhaust system with 2 silencers.


The kit retained the standard airfilter, inlet manifold and also the catalyst.

The kit was claimed to give 80 hp @ 6100 instead of 61 hp @ 6100 which was quite "optimistic" Wink

If it's a 1990, its from the John Cooper 1000 Kit. This kit claimed 60 HP. We owned a car with this kit.

It's been 14 years since I last so that Mini, but if I recall correctly, the head had some markings on the top-front neat the thermostat hoising. Does the head has any Markings?

It should be a dark green, or black, or light metallic green/blue

Any pictures?

Cooper garages made a tuning kit that included a head. Cooper did not install the kit. The parts were packaged in in a wooden box that came with the car for DIY installation. At first using it voided the Rover warantee but I believe Rover later changed this ploicy. I have no idea how to identify one. It seems to me Cooper claimed something like 90hp with the kit but reality was much different (lower). Having one might make a good talking point but if you're looking for a performance head there are much better ones available, from Longman, for example.

is there such a thing as a 1990 john cooper head and how do you positively identify it.?

if so what would be different than one from another 1990 non jc head?
