Very greatful to all the Vets for their sacrifices, my son and the high school band marched in the parade and then played for the ceremony afterwards. Everything great till i see they will be playing "Taps" at the and of the ceramony. My dad was a WWII veteran, Been gone 26 years now (cancer). Taps starts I start blubbering, missing him totally .My hart goes out to all the familys who have lost love ones in war. U are all in our prayers . Cant imagine how it would feel to lose somebody in that manner. Scott

I knew there was a reason we clicked, Jeg. Let me be the first to agree with you. Camo pants, a  hero does not make. There are too many paycheck collectors sitting next to me. I'm not saying I'm a hero. I could only wish to be as much of a man as my grandpa's. And when we had the RIF last year, I wasn't squirming one bit. My work shows my merit, and guess who's still got a job? There are dirtbags all around... I don't have to tell you that. One of the guys bitching about not getting on the lake is currently AD. Wanted to give him a little special talking to.

Today, 5/25/15 in the U.S., is memorial day.  While we should always be thakful to those who serve and have served in the military let us not loose sight of the fact that today is a day to recognize those who have fallen and given their all so the rest of us could live free.  Thank you veterans and even greater thanks given in quiet reflection to those who gave their lives for the rest of us.

Couldn't agree more, Doug. I politely remind anyone that "thanks" me on Memorial Day that the real reason is not to thank those serving, but to be thankful to those who gave it all. I don't think that anyone who served would be upset by your comments.

I'm actually more offended by the people on the news and Facebook complaining that they can't get on the lake and they have "wasted a day off work" because of bad weather. I want to personally show up at every one of their doorsteps and hand them a nice throatpunch. I'm sure that my brothers and sisters that died to keep this country free would be soo upset that you can't go out on the lake and get drunk. Poor freaking you. I was not polite to those jacka$$es just before I removed them from my "friends" list on Facebook. This is why I hate social media.

Well said, MtyMous - this site is my social media - tragic, yes, but I don't really care...  And I don't suspect my ravings below will fall upon favor...

I get upset by all those glassy-eyed, pale and puffy twinkey eaters in the media who consider every swinging d*ck in uniform a 'hero' - just for showing up to the party and doing what they've signed up to do.  Serving in a trained, volunteer military, with family benefits etc. doesn't automatically make one a 'hero'.  It costs money to train and equip soldiers; for many, it sure beats Burger King.

I have the utmost respect for those that have voluntarily fought for American freedom. Those who, without grumbling that comfy 9-5 garrison life sometimes gets disrupted as part of the job, return home either disfigured or boxed deserve dignity and respect.

I wish someone would slap the lawyers and politicians who are effectively handicapping our soldiers with their silly 'rules of engagement'.  Ordinary soldiers, who are only trying to do their thing on a level playing field, except with one hand tied behind their backs.  Only engage equipment; watch the bad guys prepare for your demise, but don't engage unless they engage you; oh, and we'll investigate you to death afterwards if you shoot/kill someone WHO TRIED TO KILL YOU...

There are only 4 types of people in the world - good guys and bad guys;  us and them.

Man...you read my mind.  It's not "let's BBQ day"...it's to honor our fallen brothers/sisters.  One thing that's been bugging me is that everything has been turned to a commercialized holiday.  Veterans day...half off everything.

So agree.  Our war heros considered serving a privelage and a necessity.  My father (long passed) was a infantry scout, yes, three guys in a Jeep heading into enemy territory almost every day.  Stories are chilling.

My step Father (passed 2 months ago) was in the Northern tip of Alaska with the mission of intercepting and decoding enemy transmissions and relaying them to allied troops.  He shared some, but never all of the secrets of the war.  Happy Memorial Day to all who served and special heartfelt thanks (Memorial Day) to those who could ot return.

My father in law John Nipper, after reading the book Killing Patton, most unassumingly mencioned that his fighter group flew support for Patton as they came to the help the 101 Airborn at the battle of the Bulge. They flew over Patton's jeep as low as they dared while he was in convoy to the front. He has just celebrated his 90th birthday. Heroes are among us, they just don't think of them selves as one.Smile

I posted this on facebook, but it seems appropriate in this thread as well.

In memory of those that served and paid with their lives. This is from WW II. It was taken by my father in Hawaii. I believe it to be the 30th Bombardment group. Many passed through Pearl, Hickam, Wheeler and Schofield on their way to the Pacific. I have no roster for those in this picture, but remember that Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving and I am sure some in this picture did not return from their service.

The AF before it was the AF.

Yesterday I had the honor of driving a Navy veteran in our local Memorial Day parade in my Mini.

As a member of the USAF, I am grateful to all those who served.
