Try hitting the end of the starter with a hammer to break it free. Needs to be pulled and cleaned.

With the proliferation of "Minis rebuilt with modern parts" there is a chance that it is not a 75 and has a "modern" starter with a built in solenoid.

If the starter is spinning, the solenoid is working. The bendix on the end of the starter isn't moving to engage with the starter ring on the flywheel. Pull the starter and free the bendix.

You'll find the starter solenoid at the end of the cable from the battery, or the other end of the cable on the starter.

The usual first advice, check the engine ground cable/strap.

Hi, this is my first time here and I'm hoping for some advice. My 1975 Mini 1000 started fine when I parked it two years ago. Now after charging the battery the starter clicks once and then just spins. Does this system use a starter and a solenoid mounted separatley? I don't see a solenoid on the starter as I'm used to seeing on Volkswagens. I'm a 30 plus year VW specialist. While trying to start it sounds like a bad solenoid but I'd like some help locating and testing it.

I've seen online that a high torque replacement is available and I'd be willing to replace it with that if it's a an option. Any help would be appreciated including the best place to purchase a replacement.

Thanks very much!
