There seem to be as many opinions of mirrors- wing/door/bullet/peep/etc. - as there are Mini drivers. I have rectangular Desmo wing mirrors on Kreacher and they work just great for me, even though I've been told with authority by some people that they are worthless. I think it must have everything to do with driver height, seat position, how the mirrors are mounted or adjusted, etc. If they work for you, good enough.

I used this type bullet mirror for many years //www.minimania.com/part/GAM105-P/Chrome-Bullet-Racing-Mirrors-Options-Available They were mounted on the vertical surface directly below the window opening. While the passenger side mirror afforded only a partial view, the driver side was fine. I used convex lenses for both. The fixed mount offered limited adjustabilty.
A few years ago I switched to this type //www.minimania.com/part/GAM108/Mirror-Bullet-Left-Hand-Long-Stem They mount in the same location as the other style. The raised plinth and swivel mount allows them to be adjusted higher up, affording a full view by the driver, even on the passenger side. These work fine with no issues.

AJ, the bullet mirrors are worthless. Sell them. Don't bother drilling holes in the body. You won't be able to use the mirrors to see a damn thing.

Yes they can Jonathan the only problem (if you want to call it that) is they will obviously be closer to you with the window open and iam not sure if they need re adjusting at that point to compensate.

Hoping to install some bullet mirrors on my '62, but I don't have the rubber and backing plate. Does anyone have the appropriate parts, or know where I can order them? (I don't see any markings on the actual mirrors.)
That type of mirror should be installed on the wings but if you plan on using them as door mirrors they are pretty much useless (ask me how i know). The Mini suppliers make a later type with a longer pedestall that works good on doors, also Delta (i think) in Japan makes an even better version that works well but is more $$$$$. Some of the UK vendors stock the parts for them.

If parts are not available, is it safe to assume I just need to make a rubber gasket and a simple metal backing plate? Seems pretty straightforward but thought I should check.
