Jemal, 

My main question about the install of the coil apron and Hi-Lo is: does the coil spring go in first, resting against the top of the subframe tower, metal on metal? Followed by the gold colored aluminum spacer, then the Hi-Lo?

No they don't (I have some that came with my original spring kit from S-Racer).

Fine if you're running the car low and don't mind hitting the bump stops, but no good if you need a higher rideheight to allow the springs to work and improve the handling.

My mom has the kind of sewing machine that can sew webbing together - if someone has an idea for how it should be built w dimensions I 'll have her fire up some prototypes. Maybe around the top of the shock, go down on the inside, tiewrap around the stationary part of the shock and pickup the shock stud- just an eyelet on each end, the only time it would see signaficant load is if you took it off a jump with hang time. Prob depends on the shock. Possible thing to think about is just for Minimania to stock the Delta type preload springs, or a longer inside-the spring trumpet sleeve on the hi-lo? Preload strap inside spring?

Can they really come unseated and dislodged while shock is still attached?  That would suck when you jump your classic MINI from one building to another.

Make sure you ask the vendor that's supplying the springs what else you need.

There's parts available to keep the springs attached when the suspension goes to full droop.
What these particular parts are, I have no idea & no need to research as I don't use the springs. Hopefully, someone with the experience will chime in.
Having a spring come un-perched will make for a really bad day.

If you don't care about saving your old stock trumpets, you can save a tremendous amount of time and headache by just slicing through them using a sawzall or similar.  They cut pretty easily and will not require you to use the fancy tool to compress the old cones which half the time doesn't work because the treads on the cones are rusted out.  Usually it will allow you to remove and reinstall the new hardware without removal of the front upper arm.

If the images posted by RedRiley aren't clear enough to follow, a procedure like suspension cone removal and re-installation is described very clearly in the trusty Haynes manual and the various workshop manuals. 

Genuine Ripspeed HiLo's come with instructions for setting them up and springs are basically cone replacements. 

If you haven't got a Haynes or workshop manual, there are plenty online in one form or other that you can download.

Hello, 

i am looking for some instructions on how to install coil springs with Hi-Los. Any information will be a help. I looked at the info on the website, but it doesn't seem to help.
