Watch out when buying loose A series head studs & nuts, many now are Chinese or Indian? rubbish. They break real easy.
If you can afford it, buy ARP.

Got my ARP 9 stud set at summit for $130.64. Free shipping if it's over $100.

[edit] Otherwise, a Minispares sourced comp stud set. Or, if broke, use good s/h ones... clean all the threads first.

Glad to hear you got it sorted. But on Minis (at least the earlier ones) There's nothing that a metric wrench is needed. The threads are SAE (inches) So, if you have nothing but metric tools, now would be a good time to invest in some SAE tools. A simple wrench set and regular/deep socket set will do. A 1-5/16" deep socket might come in handy some day but I would wait until needed.

what willie said, also try to find a Haynes workshop manual - the oldest one you can find that includes your year Mini... The newer the book, the more stuff they try to cram in there for newer models, but the manual will step you through everything you need to do - with photos and diagrams As well as torque specifications etc

cheers!

There are 9 bolts that hold the head on. The rear nuts on the rocker mounts also hold the head on. Go ahead and remove the rocker assembly.

Does your current head have the bypass hose under the thermostat? That will need to be loosened too.
