you must be Asian like me, i don't need to go to the doctor unless it's really life threatening, if it's just a minor 1-2 inch cut,it's fine, i have a soluble suture at home, i can do it myself, i mean, why do you have to go to the doctor for some bumps or bruise? to get a claim from insurance???? we don't use insurance in ASIA, we carry cold hard cash in our pockets..... The very first and last time i went to the doctor was when i was circumcized many moons and suns ago,(yes, you heard it right jeg,i am circumcized,so zip it,don't comment, lol)

anyway, heal soon buddy you can't afford not to ride during summer, when everybody is out having fun!!!!!!

The big pi$$ off here, is the driver who hit you, just carries on, continuing to drive, probably never giving you a second thought, he destroyed your mini dream and put your health in jeopardy-

Did the driver ever contact you to see how you were ?, grab everything you can, play the neck brace card if need be

Remember where nice guys finish

Your shoulder popped out? You ache all over? Your tailbone aches? You say "I am just fine".

Sounds to me you might also have shock (or at least denial!)

DO the Doctor thing.

Ransom as Zippy says you need to get with a doc asap.  I learned this after my rear-ending, when I did not.  Here's why:

1. The insurance company could care less about the car.  It's pennies compared to the medical bills.  The onset of the injuries will really start to hit shortly and you need to be documenting that with a doc.

2. The prospect of a lawsuit and huge medical bills are what the insurance company cares about now.   You have a golden ticket to the best docs and referrals around.  The insurer will assign you a contact person whose job is to make you so happy you'll never sue them.  lay that card.

3. At least see your GP and document the full range of aches and pains you have.  If you develop some kind of problem later you will need the paper trail.

good to know you"re still in one piece, i mean two piece(you and your passenger), dude, let the stupeid insurance take care of the damage, these insurance companies are always quick to charge your premium but  quick to hide when it's time to claim for accidents. i don't like insurances, i'd rather save my money in my piggy bank or bamboo pillars in my house and just be extra careful when i go out of the house, making sure i don't meet any accidents.

aaanyway, another question i want to ask in case i meet sir Alec face to face in the future is,why is the gas tank situated in that critical location where there is a risk of blast when rear ended, just like what happened to you Ransom, if he hit you a bit harder, your gas tank could've KABOOM'd !! not a very best location for a gas tank. , gas tank should be flat in shape and situated in the middle exterior flooring of the car.

glad you're ok dude!

My only concern is whether they're going to total out the car or not?..I suspect the insurance co will consider the twist in the shell to be a big problem.  I've put a lot of time and money into it lately and I'm sure I will never get back all of it. I think the car is probably worth about 10k and I've put about 12k into it so I'm sure I'll be looking at a loss if it is totaled.

if it does get total would anyone have an interest in picking it up so it doesn't get turned into a little squished cube and sent off to China?   At this point I would not have so much interest in fixing it back up after being totaled out.   If it does get to that point ill  post up a full pics and a list of what I've done to the car to see if there's any takers before I sign off to the insurance company completely.

You are not "just fine". You should see a doctor and let the other insurance company know about it.
That will also tend to "fast track" the procedures....

Oh man that sucks!...sorry to hear/see it.

IF they do total it....will you not have the option to buy it back as a "parts car"...then if you can find a shell ( good or bad ) with a vin/title...you can build your car again....on the new shell or the old

Usually the buyback price is like 10% of the payout I think.

Ransom you're in LA?  I highly suggest having the other driver's insurance trailer it up to Nick Upton at 7.  He did a great job on my rear-ending last year, though yours is worse.  The more damage the better I say - all new panels, no more rust, etc.

Have your neck looked at too, it'll start hurting over the next few days.  Get on the horn with the other driver's insurance - you'll be surprised how they take this as a sales opportunity and may just give you the red carpet like Geico did with me.

Ouch!

I imagine that the rear quarter panel and door sill/B-post are pretty straight forward to repair, but I can't help but wonder what the perpetrator's insurance company will say about the damaged roof.  Looking at the rear valance, I guess you'll need a boot floor also.

Let's hope there's not too much 'hidden' damage beyond that.  Glad you're OK.

You and you passengers are OK though, correct? That's the most important thing. Hopefully insurance will cover it - it sounds quite bad if there's deformation extending to the roof gutters on both sides?

Dang...sometimes I wonder why I even get cars fixed up.  Today I got rear ended by someone and they took out the left rear corner of my car, rippled the side, eliminated the door gap on that side, and  even deformed the roof gutters noticibly on one side, and barely visibly on the other side.  All this after getting a re spray and new shiny bits within the last year.
