Thanks Minerva for shining the spotlight. These dastardly "illegal import" cars have never been tested againg US emission standards. They only meet European standards. They will significantly increas manmade global warming if allowed in the US. They certainly don't in Europe where they can be sold after testing. Those dastardly Europeans don't care about global warming.

With all the real problems facing the US from illegal immigrants, drug imports, invasions by Mexcian govt soldiers and the president who is giving Iran the bomb....THIS is their response? Realy? Mind you, it makes sense if you hear him say that "climate change" is the #1 danger facing mankind...and actually believe him?

If it's not Scottish....it's crap! (Cry of the Mini Tartan Owners' Clan)

Thanks.  I only pop in here once in a very great while anymore.  The idiots sometimes outnumber the "good guys" - the kind that help out with advice or a part if you need it.

Contrary to what CBP might say, most of the Cars and Heavy Plant stolen to order in the UK vanish into Eastern Europe, or in the case of 4x4s, into Southern Ireland.  You would be amazed how easy it is to board a Ferry at Dover and 2 hours later you are in France, with no borders to stop you.  There are NO CHECKS that you actually OWN the vehicle you are traveling in. You are supposed to carry the V5C and proof of Insurance, but I personally have NEVER been asked to show them. So all this crap about Minis, Land Rovers and JDM cars is just protectionism by the American car industry. I've been around Ports all over the UK and the security is pretty laid back, unlike USA where you get the impression they are putting obstacles in the way of honest guys going about their business. How many Plots, or Arrests have been stopped by the introduction of TWIC?  There is a need for vigilance, but not Paranoia.  Only time I was stopped going onto a ship or coming off one, was at the height of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, and everybody was in the same situation. Random stops and questioning about who you were and where you were going and why.

I did read somewhere else that the major percentage of UK car thefts are committed by organized rings that do funnel the money to Jihad orgs.  But I don't think this affects our community because we would know what we're buying in the first place.

//www.hstoday.us/single-article/us-uk-partnership-takes-aim-at-illegal-vehicle-trade/94954f8326acce7cb4c0bbef2fc5a209.html

Excerpts:

"In an effort to combat the illegal vehicle trafficking trade, some of the profits of which find their way into the coffers of Islamist jihadi organizations, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has expanded its partnership with counterparts in the United Kingdom.  At an event at the US Embassy in London, CBP and the United Kingdom National Police Chief’s Council, National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (NaVCIS) and the United Kingdom Border Force, signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to share law enforcement information in order to intercept illegal vehicles imports.

...

Over the past year, inspections of imported vehicles, specifically Austin Minis and Land Rover Defenders, have dramatically increased with more than 500 vehicles examined.  Much of the activity was spurred as a result of Operation Atlantic."
