Thanks Abel! I had to let go of the straps but it's nice to see the car there. I haven't ordered the paper magazine yet and will have to get a bunch. Thanks again.

The rally plate finally arrived from UK and ready to be mounted the plate was made by Bryan Purves //www.bryanpurves.co.uk
compared to the original, his has the embossed border and center top white number background. Colors, typography and plate material and thickness are dead on accurate. He mentioned he can't reproduce the embossed Monte Carlo rallye fonts for patent and originality laws but I'm happy with it. Also it's not painted but it's red vinyl wrapped on white painted aluminum. Not bad for €56.00 (includes shipping to San Diego, CA)
Just trying to decide if I'm gonna cut the top left corner to make the whole thing fit and be mounted properly on all 4 corners.
Like this..

Yeah I went overboard with the font base thickness and height. I had mine at 4.5 " and it won't fit the back plate. The one I'm gonna try now is 3.3" slightly taller because of the wide black background on the hood that I painted came up to be a tad bit taller than the 33EJB's. Thanks Malcolm!

Just measured a plate Dennis and i am sure there are slightly different measurements with different number plate makers. They are 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide with the letters/numbers all being 1/2" thick. The spacing between each one is 1/2" at the closest point and the spacing in the center (between the letters and numbers) is 1 3/4". You may have to vary this slightly when using 6 letters / numbers as later plates used 7 letters and numbers which is what i had to reference here. Hope this makes sense and helps.

After staring at it for hours and showing it to a few mini friends, I concluded that the t ype is too big, kearned them too close. I'll scrap this and make version.
Folks in Europe: Any idea what size/ dimensions are for the 60s plate for the front and back? Are they the same size for both?

Wetsanded the hood and did some trial and error sizes of different fonts to use for the white numbers. A few rattle cans of black paint and clearcoat later...
so the italian job project is no more.

Im going for the black glossy arches with chrome trim. Was a tough choice. Vinyl would be great if it's done right but there's so much curves and I tried it twice and I kept getting bubbles and even shops are scared to touch it. Im already fully committed to the final look of the car since it's for my branding also. So I'll paint it flat black with either white vinyl or white paint letters/ numbers. I have the rear reverse lucas lamp coming in the mail. I'm running out of stuff to trade lol

I just read that article about the replica/tribute 37. What a wonderful looking car and great story.
Never saw the other from Stance. Some REALLY nice pix there. Thanks for sharing.
Rather then paint, why not do a matte vinyl sticker? Then apply the letters/numbers over? You think the leather straps will ruin that too?
So then the question will be this: black or color match arches??? I've seen them done both and both can look amazing if done right.

Thank you for the nice words 66coop. Im saving for a set of group two arches/ I already have the chrome trim for those. I also found these from my research on facebook mini pages for everyone else thats interested in going the Works route:
//www.paddyhopkirkmini.com/downloads/33EJB.pdf
//www.stanceworks.com/2015/01/the-works-mini-coopers/
The black full width plastidip on the bonnet was peeling off. It would probably be ok if the leather bonnet straps werent sitting on top of it. So I made a decision to paint it. The alphanumeric characters will be white vinyl. I just found a supplier of affordable Lucas lamps from Massachusetts //jollyrogersmotors.com/
The couple Mr. and Mrs. Rogers are going on a swapmeet trip to England next week and I just asked them to look out for some old used Works parts since Im after the patina. They asked if you guys want some stuff, they could get them for us. But mostly USED and in good working condition only I believe. If you want some request you can email them directly on their website. I believe they leave in a week from now.

Car is really turning into something special. A set of Group 2's would totally finish the look off nicely. Well done

Oh I mustve confused you with someone else I spoke to about an old Monte Carlo Rally plate. I did spoke to a few selling theirs.
I can replicate any plate up to the tiniest detail on the computer screen except how to emboss the actual aluminum plate Monte Carlo typography and outlines. But I'm constantly on the internet finding ways to make it close to the real thing.
