I would make sure my bonnets gaps are uniform all the way round before I do any welding.

the nose and wings are welded up first then then fitted to the car. Before welding, get hold of some klecos or a dozen pair of vice grips and clamp it together before welding and try the dry fit.
wings and front panel weld flange is on the inside.

There is a write up in Keeping Your Mini Alive #3 with some good info. You can borrow it if you want.

I am about to get ready to fit new panels (wings, nose and bonnet) and weld for a metal flip front. Anyone have a good process and or pictures to help me reduce the pain of the effort? Appreciate the help!
