Stainless for bling factor where strength is not so much of an issue and cad plated everywhere else.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

Go for bling... stainless, but polish them up first!

Ok, now, going to make up some brake lines, I think I've got the routing figured out, thanks to jedduh and others, so what is the group idea on attachment bolts and nuts?

3 Choices:

1. Original, cleaned up and painted. Got most.

2. New, gold cadmium plated, grade 8. Got a bunch.

3. New, stainless steel. Got some, can get more, tho costly.

I'm thinking #3. What do ya'll think?

oh, oh!.......... so there I was going through the pile of stuff to install and what pops up but 2 new shiny zinc plated lock tabs for the top bolts of the front subframe. Right next to the 2 cruddy looking old ones. So, just for fun, I slapped on some paint stripper on the old ones, and voila, look at what was under all that crap..............

M O W O G guess which ones of these go on..............the new ones or the old?

Had to ream out the top holes in the front subframe to fit the new metric cone compressor, so while I was waiting for the drill to cool off, I fired up the sander and buffer and polished up a couple of trumpets. Did not get out all the lumps and bumps, but they do look better and the Mothers polish will protect for a bit longer than nothing.

Here's the original on the left and buffed, not polished, on the right. Which one would you put in?

Fort Lauderdale I think. Never met him, but he was happy & sent me pictures of it with long surfboard on the roof! That was 30+ years ago.

The 69 S with Fortech flares? That sold to a surfer in Florida. The 02 S went to a vet in Connecticut. L

Hey, zippy!

Well, mine was in parts when I got it, so I never had a chance to see it all together, so hard to say if it was worse or not. See if I can find any early pics. Glad you like the color! Yeah, I hope I get it done soon, it is getting annoying. So, I went to put in the front cones with my new tool (Ha HA!) and realized I did not yet put in the new bearings in the upper arm, so after doing the first one on my vise, I said, no way.... and found a friend with a little press who did them, so I'll have those back tomorrow..... then, I thought I'd put on the brakes lines , on the front subframe, and started looking for all the stuff that I need for that....... had most, still not 100% sure I have found everything, but, that's part of the fun, eh? THis is what the subframes looked like when I got them home, below. The trailing arms were in a pile, one brake drum was red, the other black, some stuff missing, etc....

Pictures? Did someone say pictures? Here are almost 500 : https://www.flickr.com/photos/pbraun/albums/72157626938170988

Peter,
Those pictures seem familiar. Did you sneak over when I was putting mine together?

"Before" picture of mine. Did yours look better or worse?

Yours looks beautiful. Nice color choice. Can't wait to see it finished.
