I think I will price it out with some 0.125" thick tubing, the engine-side plate at 0.250" thick, and a spacer set.  How long should the 2.25" diameter tube be?  Can someone provide the alternator boss positions on an A+ block?

I confess that the one I built for the gear-drive stand is overkill - when too much is not enough!  The geared stand is a thing of beauty, though.

How about some photos from others in this thread.

Good luck with the profile update for some reason it never seems to work on this site and you usually end up putting your contact info in the signature line.

I like the kit you have created it is really a nice piece but as said Mini owners are cheap and for the person that is just going to use an engine stand once it would not be feasable to spend that much imo. That being said you get what you pay for. Could you make the kit so it fits or is adaptable to other less expensive engine stands ?

Much of the tube cost is in the cutting, so shorter is not much less expensive.  I wanted to be sure that the entire power unit cleared the braces on the stand, and that the CG is about in the center of the stand's footprint.

I realize selling them you don't want a failure. I'm sure the one I have been building complete power units on for 40 plus years complete with torquing the flywheel to 150 lb. ft. has a .125 wall tube. My welder's work is second to none. When you add in shiping and welding I feel you will have a tough sell. Hope I'm wrong. I notice you did not fill out your profile, I also went from Sprite to mini in 1968. Steve (CTR)

If the pipe is so costly, I am curious as to why it is the length it is and not simply long enough to make the welds and install the bolts on either end?

I've used water jet cutting at work.  Laser cutting is cleaner, and now that I am retired, available.  I did not include A+ holes because I don't have an A+ engine around for measurements, but they would be easy to add to the block plate.  The quarter inch wall DOM tubing is expensive.  Jeg's and Summit charge about $220 for the stand, including shipping, so I think it is a loss leader for them - anyone buying a stand will be buying parts, right?  This thing is sturdy enough to build the entire engine/transmission/diff without worry.

I traded some range time for the highly skilled welding services of a fellow GM Proving Ground retiree.  TIG is nice and clean and spatter-free.

I am in this business to provide useful tools to fellow Miniacs.  I have been in and out of Minis since 1968.

The unwelded kit as-shown, including some shims to fill between the generator bosses and the block plate, would be $80 plus shipping.  Since welding distorts the assembly, some fitting of the shims at the generator bosses will be necessary after the welding is complete.  Michigan residents would have to pay a sales tax.  I have my own LLC.

Other than following the shape of the engine stand that is the same as the one I bought in the late 70s from an outfit in Tenn. I currently have three A and two A+ adapters mounted on stands. I removed a freshly build 998 yesterday and as luck would have it I have three A+ blocks and one Cooper S ready to go on a stand. Very nice work, what is your target price per unit? We are close to a water jet shop but as mentioned LBC guys are cheap. My welder charges $50 everytime he puts on gloves and helmet. Steve (CTR)

If I was into building motors a lot for racing purposes this would definitely be something I would get. Hah...maybe you could patent it and sell it to minimania!

Nice, but before offering it for sale, it might be worth modifying it so that it will do A+ engines as well.

Much nicer than the one I made 25-30 years ago. Mini owners are a frugal bunch. They love quality, but getting them to pay for it is another thing.,

Thanks for the complements!  I don't see it as an invention - what's new is the access to laser cutting to produce low volumes, with reasonable precision, at reasonable prices.  I did make three "kits" for starters.  Is there any interest?  The Sunex stand is overkill for the Mini, but its strength is confidence inspiring.

Nice!  I think you may have a possible invention on your hands!  Great job.
