my goodness Sir Wil,   the distance from Washington state to Detroit is 1,998 miles, i'm doing a crazy 20,000mile cross country trip. lol , but you are right, i have to man up and drive my mini all the way.

but, to be honest, what could be the reason for my car to leave me stranded on the side of the road?  

i can replace the points, condenser, float valve, plugs, wires, maybe halfway if the valve needs to be adjusted ,i can do that too, wheel bearings is not likely to go kaput.,  i can change the drive belt too, radiator hose, carb cables, master cylinder seals, slave valve seals, front brakes?? nah, i can use hand brake if needed.....the only real issue is when the pistons decided to fry or loose it's compression,that'll be the end of the journey, that's when the towbar gets in the picture.

LOL, Sir WiL, i admit im little chickening , i plan a trip from texas down to el paso then new mexico, arizona coast of california, oregon, washington ,pretty much clockwise if you look at the US map. may need 2 sets of brand new tires. to finish entire course. i did it on my Scooter before i almost won the Iron butt award.  but a guy from Austin tx beat my record darn.  but my morphous scooter is indestructible. thats why i needed a life support(towbar)   if you get stranded in the El Paso highway, a 200mile stretch and ALL you see are cactus and sand., scorpions and giant ant will feast on you if you fainted . yayks!

I used grade 8 bolts nuts and washers on mine available at Ace HD or Lowes. No need to disconnect the battery (not coil) just turn the key on to the first accessory position (without the red light on). You do need a stiffner bar between the two holes connecting the two bolts together which needs to be spaced off the front valance otherwise the bolts will be taking all the stress.

Perfect Sir Zip, 1/2 inch diameter bolt is what's really am thinkng for a replacement. where'd you get them? Autozone? the bolts sold in lowes or HD are somewhat unfit for the job/ i prefer industrial bolt and nut.

And a follow up question, this will be my very first time to use a towbar, so the procedure is put the key to on position just so the steering will be free, and detach the wire from the coil?? is this right?

That towbar, properly installed will do just fine. (almost overkill) And the Mini behind will do just fine... Provided things like the wheels, tires, steering arms, etc. stay servicable.
Yes, drilling the hole out is almost standard procedure. (Mine is sized for a 1/2" bolt.)

i am planning to do a cross country trip with my mini this Fall (no i'm not dreaming,nor hallucinating,nor sexless)., i pretty much have a 3weeks vacation. The plan is, my GF will drive the SUV and i will drive the mini.(drive till it drop kinda thing), NO TRAILER, NO TRIPLE A , NO "CALL A FRIEND" NO WHINNING!!!  BUT, i need to install towbar hitch thingy in front of my mini in case something worse happens.  Currently, i have the Demco adjustable towbar. 

question is, has anyone tried drilling the towring hole bigger to accomodate a larger bolt? because right now what i have is the regular skinny dorky tiny tow ring which i don't think can withstand pullup pressure especially towing uphill.,  i know there is a guy in san diego ca who did a custom towbar assembly in front of his mini, it's pretty neat and looks durable. pls chime in if you're a member of this forum., i just need specs/size of the bar , did you use machine bolt? what size? etc.  AND ,is it safe to tow the mini that way? what's the maximum distance? , idc if i put miles on the odo. thanks
