Looks like a GMC167 should be the one for a late 70's Canadian Mini.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

I cannot decipher our host's part numbering system. Does anyone know the EXACT part number for a tandem (front and rear) brake master cylinder for a 1979 Mini 1000 (Canadian) with a green band. Or is it possible my vehicle has been fitted with the wrong part by a PO? See pictures.

My thoughts too, James (6464). No point in taking risks for the sake of a few dollars.

brakes are not something you want to patch.  mc's are cheap enough. there's a lot of pressure in the lines when you step on the peddle. no pressure when it lets go.

Yellow band stepped MC have a metric fitting so you *can't* connect them up the wrong way round.

Thanks, Steve (CooperTune). The Cylinder (AFAIK) is a standard tandem cylinder as fitted to the 1979 Mini. It has the Green Band fitted. Not sure how to respond to the SAE/metric question.

Which master is it that uses a SAE thread and a metric? Fine thread coils are less common then course. Steve (CTR)

take it to the shop who rebuilt it and ask them to fix it for you, or buy a new m/c

1979 Mini 1000 (Canadian) I have just installed new brakes, shoes, slaves cylinders etc. and got as far as reconnecting the front and rear brake pipes to the master cylinder. The top connection (rear) was being difficult so I backed out the connecting nut and realized the top(rear) outlet had been heli coiled at some time. I had this master cylinder refurbished a month ago. I do not suspect that the service company would do this without telling me. I can't get the heli coil to go back in. What are my options?
