No question on that as it was the Eastman Kodak business plan from over 100 years ago and it worked...for a while.
I guess I hang on to things too long. I still have an 8X10 D2 Kodak camera of my father's that my son and I are going to experiment with.
Also fully refurbed my 40 year Raleigh bicycle for more money than it is worth. A fool and his money, etc, etc

It is indeed crazy that you need to test that they work. Mike K. has been saying this for awhile and I know we get what we pay for.
But like TurboDvae said on another thread about rubber items, make two batches, one with cheap rubber that won't last a year in use and a more expensive batch that will last several.
Does it really add to the bottom line that much?
old man rant over...

One old guy to another (and you don't look that old from here!):
It does if you are selling parts. You make something really well that last a long time and you don't sell many items. Your business may starve to death before your customer comes back. The magic word is "consumables". Nowadays you get a 3-in-1 printer for next to nothing... but check the price of ink or toner. We've seen printers retail for a lower price than the ink/toner to refill them.
(I'm waiting for 3D printers to come come down that far, haha.)
.

You really make a good point and seems harder nowadays to find good quality parts.

I ended up installing a 180 degree Stant Superstat that was made in the USA and had no issues this morning on my way to work. I boiled a pot of water with the Stant stat last night and it started to crack around 181. Precise enough for me.

I'll add a third and fourth thumbs down for Mr Gasket as a company.... years ago they had an actual location and knowledgeable people with a hot-rodding background. Now they seem to be just a name, a front for run-of-the-mill aftermarket items made in China like the fuel pump I just installed in my hot rod Moke. Just try to find anything current on their website, try to find a tech-help line or even an old fashioned email... Nope! They make it plain that they don't want to hear from you!
The fuel pump seems to work well for now though!

The bad news is that it failed. The good news is that it failed in the open position like it was supposed to.

I hope nobody runs into this issue but just wanted to pass along the info. this morning the outside temp was 55 degrees while I was driving my mini to work. The temp gauge was only reading at about 140. I then turned on the heater and it continued to drop from there. I had just installed a new 180 degree Mr. gasket high flow thermostat two days prior so that couldn't be it should it? Well I desided to check and look what I found...the darn thing was stuck in the open position. No more going with made in China thermostats for me.
