The car rental story is funny!  And you will remember lots of things like that...and they do stick with you.

My Dad's been gone 36 years and still, every time I travel the Fraser Canyon on Canada's Hwy. 1, I remember the winter trip 55 years ago when it took us 12 hours to get from Kamloops to the coast on the original 2 lane canyon road up and down, crossing and recrossing the CPR and CNR tracks.

My Dad didn't teach me any mechanics, he just gave me a $100 Hillman and I had to learn to change the clutch, for example, since I could'd afford a mechanic.  The rest is history and my memories of him remain.

Sorry to hear of the passing of your DAD. Mine has been gone 24 years now, think of him more and more as i grow old. Hes the one who got me into mechanics. Hope you and your family heal quickly and time will pass, doesnt make anything easier now. just wanted to say sorry. Scott DeRuyter

Alex, he returned that car to the agency and the man directed him nose in by a concrete half wall on the damaged side as well.  Your effort and valiance hadn't effected the outcome.  He laughed about that one.

"Who are these two clowns ?" I can hear him say.

Robin elongated his stay with us last year by several days (he was a fantastic house guest, fully trained) and I introduced him to Branston Pickle, something I believe he developed quite a taste for.  Part of the reason he stayed was to help solve a few few problems with the V1.0 Clubman hinges from Minivation.  He was photographing me fitting them for a tech article (how I wish now that the art editor had given him a credit) and we were having no end of installation issues.
Eventually Ben from Minivation came down, and we were up till about half one in the morning tinkering.

You could say it was a bit of a Busman's Holiday for an engineer of his ability, but he was really enjoying himself.

Robin stayed with us a couple of times when he was over for the English IMMs.

Back in 2009 he had a nasty little Ford Ka as his hire car - and put it into a hedge while avoiding something in a backlane somewhere.
Having had a terrifying ride with him last year, I can quite see how it could have come about - RHD and the LHS of the road combined with much faster moving traffic, on much much smaller roads weren't his favourite things.
Anyway, the morning of his departure saw us T-cutting and polishing this nasty little Ka to try and remove the evidence of his misdemeanor.  The big plastic bumpers were scraped and there were several really nasty scratches down the whole of the nearside.  Polishing isn't my forte (unless it's the chrome on an Elf) but we had at it for what seemed like hours trying to make good the damage.
It worked - or at least he got away with handing back the Ka in rather worse condition that it had been issued.

The memorial service will be at Walton Hills Church of Christ, 7166 Dunham Rd. Walton Hills, OH 44146. We have not confirmed the party venue.  I would look into hotels in Fairlawn/Montrose.  There is also Independence too, but if you are planning to party the best bet is Fairlawn/Montrose.  Thank you, very humbling to all that are willing and wanting to attend.

Another story about Robin.............

Years ago l bought a DOODER BLOCK at a show from Dean, in fact l purchased 2 of them, one for me and one for Robin as he had asked for one, well l never did get the wooden wonder block to Zip, so l wrote his name on it in black marker - "ROBIN JONES- OHIO" and somehow my BRIT Car Mechanic, Bobby J ended up with it. So the block was then referred to as "ROBIN JONES FROM OHIO ", well sometime passed and Robin came up to Ontario and we attended MR MINIS OPEN HOUSE in Stoney Creek Ontario, Bobby J was there And when l introduced Robin to Bobby, Bobby said, in a loud incredulous voice "ROBIN JONES FROM OHIO" ' sounded funny at the time but we all had a good laugh- Later l tok Bobby to North Royalton OH we're he helped Zip with some mechanical advice on - BARB"

Great memories

One idea would be to find a pewter MOKE sculpture or a scale model or one of the nice display type Vitesse models (maybe someone has one that they would donate) and have it fixed to a nice wooden urn box. There are several custom urn makers on the web that have some nice examples of urns done this way.

Yeah, I left a message on Matt's telephone, at least I think I did.  There's a car guy (funeral director) in Pennsylvania, Sheldon Weaver, who operates AutoUrns (//www.autourns.com/home.html ) and there's a die-cast 1:43 scale Moke on Amazon (//www.amazon.com/Mini-Moke-Diecast-Model-James/dp/B00TDQLBTG ).  Not knowing what the scale required for the urn is, I was thinking that the Moke model could have the striped hood died black by our resident modeller and possibly forwarded to Sheldon for mounting to the urn.

Just a thought...

Edit:  Here's more on the Moke model:

Do you have a general location yet for the Memorial and the party ?

It would be nice to be able to start looking at hotels nearby.

OCTOBER 17th 2015 is set in stone.  We are having a memorial for him early - mid afternoon.  That will just have appetizers and deserts plus non-alcohol drinks.  That portion will be quite informal.  Both him and I share a distain for dressing up.  We are still working on a venue for part 2.  The party!  Food will be catered and drinks will be on us.  His 2 favorite beers "Free and Free Light."  I am guessing we will have quite a few people that want to share some words.  I may even set up a video feed???

Update, my mother (Janet) is doing very well with what has happened, day by day, step by step.  My little dude, Marshall knows something is different, but that guy makes me smile when I am having a moment.  My wife Michelle has been very supportive and we need eachother to get through this

Now onto an odd art/metalform/sculpting request.  My mom has her heart set on an urn in the shape of a MOKE.  Does anyone do those sort of things or know someone who would.  Use # below ASAP Please!

Text or call me (216) 773-5581 (Let me know who you are too) if you want more details and or to give me a heads up you are coming.  If my dad had your number, the phone had to go back to his employer and I did not have time to transfer contacts.

I always thought that Robin looked a lot like Teddy Roosevelt...and shared his happy demeanor too.

I am sorry for your loss. I have only met your Dad once in person, and he let me have a bottle of Cosmo beer. That bottle will forever more stand in my shop,so I will remember both men. I also bought your Dads 1098 motor. If that motor does end up in my next mini, it,s name will be Zippy.   RIP ZIP
