They now have a price listed.
£11,600 + VAT or about $16,710 for the base engine kit. Not including the donor Suzuki engine you need to source.

Those are all points I hadn't really considered. I was thinking of it more from a street- sleeper standpoint, a modern engine conversion that didn't require a ton of reengineering of the basic car. I made the classic mistake of assuming that I was the target market for this. I was getting ahead of myself a little bit there; one can dream of being able to take on his friend's Lambo with a fighting chance!

There is no comparison to the current front drive VTEC powered cars! This will reduce front end weight from a B-series VTEC by over two hundred pounds!! Over 100 pounds lighter than the stock Mini Lump. Closer gear ratios, (6 speed), room for forced induction so double the power potential of B engine apps. This will handle like no front engine Honda swap. Weight distribution will approach 50/50. When using this lump in a mid-engine swap, it eliminates the problematic and heavy sprocketted Diff, chain, and the electric reverser-motor used in current mid engine bike swaps. Other Plusses over the chain drive are; the engine can be moved back 8 to 10 inches, so the seat has room go back for us tall drivers, also more room for a blower; note the special alloy Plenum, which is designed to be pressurized. Downside is, either front or rear mount, it will be very noisy with the straight cut gear box and final drive gears. No flywheel, means difficulty getting the 1200 pound car rolling without either burning the clutch or the tires without stalling the motor.
As for the paddle shift design, they will sell 98% of these with it; people spending the big Bucks for this swap are not the same people that toddle around in a classic A-series with an LCB. This is mostly for racing, not for the street; It doesn't even have a neutral position in the trans, which means you have to hold the clutch in when you're not moving. No flywheel, makes for hi rev starts and frequent stalling from a stop. This problem drives me crazy on my car, even with a 6 pound 7.5 inch wheel. Everyone that drives it stalls it. With the Busa gearing, you will cruise at about 4,000 RPM; ok for the engine, but again, noiseeeeey. Most People that spend the bucks and expect to use the car for everyday road driving will soon get tired of dealing with it and you will see them pop up in the classified section. Only a very few, like myself, will consider the trade off worth while, and will put many miles on a swap like this. This is for racing, not for driving to work.

Honestly... it's a glad-to-happy thing for me. They seem to have done some seriously awesome engineering and research up to this point. I'd bet they did their homework on shifting preference vs. practicality. Much like any kit out there, if you want to tweak it or make it more suitable to your needs, you simply do it for yourself. It's not really all that hard to convert a paddle shifter to a bump shifter given they are both the same style (electronic paddle to electronic bump, or mechanical to mechanical).
Either way, I'm interested.

Well it would be sweet to use as much as the original set up at first! Since they're going towards a drop in replacement of the old horse. Then move on and take off to the moon with paddles.. Good thing is they think about it now, rather than releasing the whole thing and then have to re-engineer everything..for a gear stick..

Me thinks they should do a tad bit more market research on that before committing to paddle shift. After going through all the trouble to be certain that it fits in the subframe and under the bonnet with no mods, one would think they wouldn't be as flippant about non-traditional shifting. I understand that sequential gearing lends itself more to paddle shifting in a car, but there are plenty of stick- controlled sequentially geared boxes out there. Also can't really imagine the look of paddles on a MKI steering column....

The engine initially will be paddle shift, but we are looking at a gear shift option if people want it, most people like the idea of paddles

I could see it giving the VTEC guys some stiff competition if it works as nice as it looks.
And if the price isn't too crazy.
Thats exactly what i had in mind! If they keep it in the 10k price range, theres deffo some head on collision coming..

That is some really sweet kit there. And with the 6 gears + reverse and seemingly drop in compatablity with Mini subframes and suspension, I could see it giving the VTEC guys some stiff competition if it works as nice as it looks.
And if the price isn't too crazy.

Superb engineering. Going to cost a pretty penny I would guess.

It's been fun, but this place is done. I have no hatred, and appreciate the good times. But this place now belongs to Tony and his pink mini.
