Best place for voltmeter to tap into

If the factory wiring is intact, you can splice one of the gauge wires into any dark green or white wires behind the dash. The remaining gauge wire would go to earth. If you want to illuminate the gauge, those wires are tyically red/white.

I'm going to wire mine in across the solenoid, with a switched negative controlled by the ignition, to make sure I'm seeing battery voltage.

I bought a voltage guage and am trying to find the best place to tap the voltage from. It would obviously have to be a wire that was on with the ignition switch on, and off otherwise. My car (82 mini saloon) doesn't have a cigarette lighter which I would normally tap into, and has the four position fuse box in the engine bay.
