I don't think it is just the alcohol. Prior to unleaded gas (back around 1975) my FIAT x1-9's tailpipe was the same light beige-brown as the desired colour on spark plugs. Things went dark with unleaded gas.

Alcohol in our gas does bad things, soot is one. We have access to 100% pure gas, the cars I run this in have no soot problem.

thats normal no worries exhaust water vapours mix with deposits.
Agreed, as long as the car is running fine with no check engine lights, you should be fine.

Hello everyone
So I just got a new (to me) 09 clubman S. I LOVE IT. Have always wanted a Cooper and I can't get enough of her. I have one concern to. I noticed soot splatter on my garage floor obviously from tailpipes. The poor thing sat for at least a month before I got her and am wondering if that's the possible cause or could it be another issue. There don't seem to be any codes or warnings in the system and I may have her checked by local bmw/Cooper pros but wanted to get opinions here first to see if I'm just being new mommy worry wart lol.
