Don't forget the retractor does not wind up all the belt - only enough that it hangs straight on the doorpost. Leave enough out to go from the anchor point on the sill up to the ring near the top of the doorpost and then bacj down to the retractor. It should just barely wind in the difference. Note also if ever you change belts, the new belt length must match the original length. For example Honda Civic belts won't fit a Toyota or prabably any other Honda model.

man to be honest you really suck as a mod LOL! Smile but I know its not your main responsibility and you're definitely better doing your thing as a mechanic. Lets hope TB keeps it positive from now on Cool

I always say to check for stray french-fries in the rachet mechanism.  I know it happens a lot that debris gets in to varios latches, such as seat belts, and makes them hard to latch or un-latch!

I agree dimitris!!  In my off-forum interaction with even the original robster, I saw that he had a reasonable side and encouraged him to keep the sunny side up!  Even when pretty much everyone was pummeling me non-stop about him!!

A pretty good video to understand how they work. Note he said to check the rewind before closing up the doorcard. Remember also to check for full unwind too. If you wind it up too tight the spring will wrap up tight before you get to full extension. You should be able to pull the belt so it unwinds all the way. If the spring wraps up tight and binds, it may jamb and not retract at all.

The ball bearing in there is part of the inertia system - it is what locks the belt close to your body when you put the brakes on... or worse, run into something.

The seatbelts on my mini has lost its retracting capacity, my question, is it possible to take the mechanism apart and do re-tensioning of the spring to regain its retracting power??  Has anybody done this?  Currently on a budget, can't buy a new one.
