That looks like more fun than you can shake a stick at.

"A fairly large party of Mokers from South Africa managed the feat in 1983."
Are you sure?

Here's Chris' thread -
//www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/topic/314670-simpson-desert-aust-crossing-by-moke-wish-us-luck/#entry3369109
He's also quite prepared, and knows what the desert can be:

I wish him success -
The updates will be likely posted here:

Thanks to BIG AL I got a heads up on a party of 4 Mini Mokes attempting to cross the Simpson Desert in Australia. Has been done in Mokes only once before...33 years ago. A fairly large party of Mokers from South Australia (sorry for the goof) managed the feat in 1983.
The Aussie party of 7 augmented by 1 Pommie set out yesterday travelling west to east - the lower slope (<20%) on the dunes are on the western side: the steeper slopes (<40%) are on the eastern side. Dunes can be 2 - 40 metres high (approx. 7 to +120 feet) high. some dunes are 120 miles long so no driving around them.
There is a thread on 'The Mini Moke Forum' for those that would follow along.
