Yes!!!! I saw you staring! Right by South Park Abbey, your dog was doing its biz. I actually get a lot of those stares so don't worry! I went to Food Bowl Market and then watched the cars race at Qualcomm right after and had a whole family flip out on seeing a Cortina. Based on a lot of peoples reactions to my car lately I may just keep it.

I'm over by Qualcomm Stadium. I had an idea a non DMV place would be an easy pass! I'll look the SD Mini page up and add it. Thanks for the input!

I used a non-DMV place to do DMV tasks recently here in San Diego and there was no issue getting a title issued. It was for a car I bought in CA but was still registered out of state.  All I needed was a Bill of Sale, original out of state title, and a filled out "Application of Title Issue/Transfer" form. They did a quick vehicle inspection, and by quick they checked the VIN and mileage and I was good to go.

Where in SD are you? Hop onto the San Diego Mini's Facebook page, it shows our meet-up times and classics for sale pop up from time to time. We meet as a group once a month.

You have that right! Sadly, the biggest problem with the CA DMV is the people behind the counter. You're left to the "interpretation" of the law depending on which employee you deal with, and often that can turn into nightmares.

I've even scooped up paperwork from bad DMV clerks and went to another DMV for a second chance. Terrible...

Not only is that information patently false (the cutoff year is 1976), but there is a proposal pending in California that would amend the law, extending the legal requirements for smog-check from 1976 vehicles clear through 1980 if insured as a collector vehicle

Cool i'll check that out. I actually had someone offer to ship a classic Mini plus cash, but I couldn't find a pre 75 Mini online. That and the fact i've heard so many horror stories of cars getting stuck at port and being sent back or to the crusher.

Yeah that's the problem i've learned I will have to deal with. Finding a Mini in Cali that's already reg'd here in this state. If I can sell this Cortina i'd prefer to just browse the Mini market here in CA. My goal is to find one by the start of summer.

I haven't had much luck but I figured I would try on the forums. I was previously searching for a classic Mini and came upon a trade I could not pass up. Well few months later and I have the itch to try and get into a classic Mini again. Not sure if anyone here is into Euro Fords, but I have a Cortina and i've been trying to trade for a classic Mini. Maybe someone on here has 10 Minis and could use a Cortina? I'm in California.

Here's the Cortina ad on Mini Mania.

It's also on craigslist/ebay, came close to a few trades but no luck.
