As you have already learned, the hazard relay will be rated for twice the current (Wattage) since it handles both left and right hand lights at the same time whereas the turn signal flasher only has to do left or right sides individually.

The EL12 has been a common replacement at Advance Auto and other sources.  I don't know what other franchises carry them.

I Googled and found the link below for interchanging flasher part numbers.  Search the page for EL12 and you'll find a row about 1/4 the way from the top that lists several crosses with EL12.

I have bought them at Advance and Auto Zone maybe even Napa before but don't recall the part number.

It seems to me the hazard flasher should be rated for twice the power, so using that for the indicator flasher should be OK.  Is there another compatible replacement for the two pronged indicator flasher besides the Tridon EL12?  I couldn't find that in my local Autozone.

I am not an expert but imagine it would be fine for a while as they basically do the same job but one works with four bulbs and the other two bulbs.
Maybe Doug could chime in.

I found a small rectangular two pronged flasher relay (Lucas sfb115) very close to the other round one and it happens to be the indicator flasher relay.  (I swapped the other round one which I now know is the hazzard flasher (it has 12V, 21Wx4 written on it) with the rectangular one and my indicator started working correctly and the hazzard stopped working.  My question now is, can I just keep using the round one for my signal until I order another Lucas sfb115 equivalent?  Are the hazzard and signal flasher units compatible or do I risk burning something up?

Turn on the hazards and see/hear it.
If your 1982 Mini has the 2 or 3 clock binnacle in front of you above the steering column the flasher should be in the back of the binnacle.

Happened to me a few years back, exactly as you described.  The hazard lights were also acting up.  For me, it was the inline fuse behind the speedometer.

That's a good one.

I use an electronic flasher.  I have not had the same bad luck with them as Larry has.  I use a Triden EL13 (3-prong) in place of the Lucas 3-prong flasher.  The EL12 can replaced a Lucas 2-prong flasher.  Both should be available at your local parts store.

Replace the flasher unit. Find an NOS version, modern digital ones don't last very long.

Last night I noticed my turn signals on my 82 mini were blinking super slow (like once every 10 seconds), then today they stopped blinking completely!  They come on, but stay lit, no blinking on/off.  I have to flip it back and forth to simulate blinking.  Left and right signals do the same thing.  What's going on?  The signal switch is fairly new.
