Most recent offshore parts order received today.

Seller noted 'Antique Auto Parts' and cited Canadian Tariff Code 9966.00.00.

No DUTY (6.1%)...just GST & PST (combined 12% in B.C.).

Yes I always understood the parts for antique car thing….was just curious about the number, if that applied to just US, or also UK

from my understanding its any parts, or cars, purchased outside Canada. So works for Uk shipments as well. I just read up a bit about it on some other forums for vintage motorcycles

quote "Here's the tip of the week for everyone in this group living in Canada, which is almost all of us: Whenever you purchase parts from a country other than Canada for any vehicle, in our case our bikes, please remember to instruct the vendor to fill out the customs declaration (CN22) with the following: Parts for a vintage motorcycle over 25 years old. Exempt under tariff code 9966. Yes that's right, you cannot be expected to pay duty on parts for a vehicle 25 years or more old. The customs folks never tell you this, but I am."

Does this number apply to parts coming from Minispares, Mini Sport etc?

Thanks for posting this! From my understanding of reading the article it refers only to OEM parts, or parts that are a safety upgrade to OEM, (eg. Disk brake swap). Good to keep in mind. I bet that certain items could be argued to be safety items, like adjustable suspension parts (allowing for more traction with modern tires).

Right BIG AL...British Wiring has it right and puts the sticker on their shipping package.  Aids the incompetent...though to be fair, no human could remember all the tariff itemizations that those protecting against imports schemed up over the years.

Canadian Customs in some cases will try and charge the 6.1 % duty on cars more than 25 years old but over the 15 year limit, just ignorance on some officers part

It took me 3-4 years to figure out l had been ripped off,l complained and the officer gave me a sheath of forms and told me l could claim a rebate

Yeah right, l am going back into the lair of the beast and ask for money

Of course l could have told them l was B C and all would be well LOL

9966.00.00 is a Canadian Tariff classification for Vehicles & Parts 25 years old or older...NO DUTY (6.1%).  There are some exceptions BUT not related to Classic Minis.

I have an appeal in regarding the import of the then 40 year old Aussie Mini Window Van in January 2014.   In my case the DUTY was just over $500.  I'd like that back.

The Canadian Tariff for importation of vehicles and parts for vehicles 25 years of age or older is 9966.00.00....so all US suppliers please note and post on the outside of packages coming to Canada.

For example, British Wiring has a sticker to ID such electrical items.

Result...NO DUTY charged, just 5% GST to Canadian buyer/importer (if charged at all).
