Speak to Jay pantaleon of Milwaukee mini club. I saw him this weekend. I am sure he is on here. Ask him how the experience was. He picked a car up from me Saturday. I am sure he is on here.

It is essentially a pair witness registered through the state. This ensures that the services agreed upon stay fair. That the car gets delivered at the agreed upon price and also that the customer doesn't back out of an agreed purchase with out a very good reason.

May I ask what value a notarization offers your customers?
When I left the US I could get anything notarised for ten bucks.

Of course. I deal in a variety of vehicles. Currently have a 77 mini. I don't just import rover minis. I do others as well. I check local regulations for customers and in most cases i register in my home state so there is official American papers to go with the car. Last thing I want is a seizure. In the several years of bringing cinquecentos, minis, classic Honda etc. I have never had a seizure. I do this through full transparency with the govt etc. As i have started before I have contracts written up and notarized to protect BOTH parties. How many importers do that. I fully stand behind my cars. I recently traded a car yesterday to one of the members of the Milwaukee mini club and he said it was exactly as described with a clean Illinois title. Some of you may know him.

ItalianJobber: I don't think anyone was suggesting that your dealings were shady. I certainly wasn't. There are so many people wanting classic Minis that are not aware of the risks of dubious registrations such as out-of-state or bogus VINs and the very restrictive regulations of some states, it is a frequent topic around this forum. It is part of the forum's purpose to provide help to Mini owners. The biggest help we can offer is information on how not to lose one's Mini. One member here -a Mini owner - happens to be in law enforcement, and his job is to catch illegally imported vehicles. Despite loving Minis, he has had to seize and eventually destroy some Minis, after due legal process, of course. He has posted photos as proof. So this advice is offered for your benefit too.

ItalianJobber, you say your cars are old, but earlier you said you were shipping a nice ROVER Mini in a couple of weeks. It may be old in some aspects, but definitely not old enough to live in California. Just be aware (and tell your customers) that illegal Minis in California are getting confiscated and crushed. Just so you know.

Ok. I understand. While it is not the best practice, what and how owners title their cars is up to them. I provide the cars with a clean title and after that I can advise but not force them how to title. I believe in his case it was a split residency but I can't be certain. It has been a while since I spoke to them. My cars are quality cars and I have dealt with importing for a long time as well. That is why any deal me and a potential customer come to is written up in a notarized contract. To protect BOTH parties involved. I don't believe in being shady and I am up front with everything. I provide several pictures and tell customers what may become an issue in the future ( these are old cars after all). Any questions feel free to ask. I am open and honest.

ItalianJobber:
Big AL (aka oldminimover aka the Mini Mover) is a very long time, very experienced and very reputable dealer in Minis across North America. He would not require your services. What he was saying is that buying a Mini (from anyone) that is not legitimate in your country or state of (true) residence and trying to circumvent laws and regulations by having it registered in another state is a mine-field. Not just with law enforcement, but with insurers. If one had an accident or had the car stolen, and it was discovered that the car was not registered in the place of residence, the insurer may say "too bad, but you were not truthful on your application. The policy is null and void."
I would not be surprised if Big AL has dealt with owners with tears in their eyes over Minis that could not or were not legitimately registered. I suspect he was inviting potential purchasers to contact him about the pitfalls.
