The Senior US Air Farce Chaplain once overheard this word being used.... and asked for an explanation.  He was told that the term was used to describe an individual who overly indulged in self gratification.

All was fine until a short while later when he stood up to say grace for a room full of international VIPs.. and intoned the immortal words:

"Lord, bless this food and help us not to be wankers.."

Half the room looked around wondering why the other half was on the floor choking with laughter..

Cheers, Ian

Anyway regarding the title.. it may or may not be an issue.  Being military, I can either get an IL tag (where I currently reside) or a WA tag (where I am a resident).  IL is telling me they require a title because according to them (IL), AL requires titles for any car newer than 1975.  The seller sent me a link to a dmv site that I have yet to check that may refute this.  Now WA on the other hand does not care one bit.  They just want the form filled out, a copy of the bill of sale, and a check... and apparently I get a title.  Anyway I'm dealing with the title bit.. I'm more curious about what people think about the car itself (please see link above).

The fog lights on the grill are not hooked up because apparently they create too much draw, dimming all lights and draining the battery as a result.  Is this normal?  Furthermore, as you can see in the picture of the battery, there are extra small cables running off the terminals.  According to the seller he's not sure, but he thinks that those leads run the stereo!  Does that seem a little mickey mouse or is it just me?

Regards,
Andrew
1.)  Definitely not normal, probably doesn't have relays...  Easily solved, but until then, a disaster waiting to happen...

2.)  Yep - just a little Mickey Mouse...

oh no, it's not that simple. there are series of investigations, one is running the vin,and compare it to their data base to see the sale history, past and current owner, and see if the car has been reported as condemned/history of late registration etc. or if someone issued an affidavit of loss./ record of police report/ record of accident/ records of year when the car was sent to the dealership for repair, dealership has the record of the cars engine and chassis number and owners name./
The purpose of putting the car in the ad is solely to if there will be two or more claimants on the car, if there are, then the car cannot be issued a title,, if none, then the title will issued under the current applicant.

does the "investigation" entail anything more than simply running an ad in some local Arizona newspaper?

Hopefully a national police car registration service is also used so that a car stolen in some other state/province (and reported to the police there) will show up as such when the thief goes to "get a clean title" in a state like Arizona.

In that case, maybe it could be OK then. The worst case scenario would be an innocent owner, years later, and several sell/buy steps later, losing their pride and joy because it turns out to lawfully belong to someone else (read about the Cobra that recently happened to).

That's the reason why there is an investigation for one month, some other states dont even investigate and issue a title right away after they have the new owner sign a waiver.

"i dunno why some people freaks out when they discover that the car has not title. (???)..no biggie!"

um, isn't the title the #1 proof of ownership?

The arizona "steal it anywhere, bring it here and get a clean title" law, as described, sounds like a boon for car thief rackets everywhere.

Having no title is not a problem at all, Here in AZ, if you don't have a title for your car, you can apply for lost title, at the nearest DMV, just pay, and they will investigate and publish the car in the newspaper, if nobody claims for it's ownership, then the title will be granted to you, it takes about 1 month for the entire process., then you can now reggister the car under your name and get the license plate.

I'd run away from that one….no title??

Although the stalk controls are of 77 - 88 origin, I don't think that car is a 77

Well, it looks to be an 86 to 88 in actuality, making it less than 35 years old, so much for "Alabama law"!  With no title AND incorrect registration, it looks like nice yard art!  We would not have supplied an HS2 on a 1275....

This car from the Cars for Sale section

I am asking for a friend of a friend.  It appears from the ad that the current seller has not owned the car long, so I was hoping to get some history on it if anyone is familiar with it.
