The first Mini 1000 of 1973 was XA2S1-N-877360A, the first of 1974 was XA2S1-N-1146574A so 952044 was probably April although that would depend on the number of strikes at the plant in the first quarter of the year.

Looks like possibly a late 73 then, as I think rod shift was introduced in early 73 (?)

From what I can gather from reading Cheleker's article, it's definitely early in the 1974 to 1980 window, as he says the A in the second position is not common in that timeframe and disappears completely thereafter.

Edit: now reading further, your commission number puts you back in the 69-74 window, as the 74 onwards comm numbers start at N20S-230547A.  Since you are 38,117 cars prior to that, perhaps year on year production numbers could help you pinpoint exactly.  My money says late 73, but I'm not betting real pennies...
