Funny thing is, in general, no moderation is needed as long as the disruptive influence isn't here.

I still don't understand the reluctance to delete the troll every time he pops up, like was done to Bill for over a decade.

In the past, Don, who actually owns this forum, along with the rest of MiniManiaTM    has actually threatened to pull the plug on this forum COMPLETELY.  I doubt he would want to spend money shutting down and reformatting the forum.

We all need to just move on, studiously ignore troll behaviour, resist temptation, correct erroneous information posing as fact.

Oh yeah... banning BIG AL would be like banning Santa.

Ssuperfly, Jemal has stated that the forum set up is antiquated and it is hard to stop the likes of specialist popping back in with another screen name and he also does not have the time to moderate it as much as it should be. He and MM have had offers from members to moderate it but as far as i know (apart from Dan telling Jemal when there is a problem) they have not taken anybody up on it.

Can't MikiMania just freeze the Forum, delete the suspect accounts (mine if need be), make it a moderated forum where membership has to be approved. And turn it back on with existing accounts in place minus whoever they want to turn off.

i think most any forums have moderated sign ups, such as the 16v Mini who's kicked out one of the MiniMania posters.

Wait a second...

you're telling me that specialist is robster?

All joking aside. I just opened my account at RM:

//restorationmini.com/forum/index.php?action=forum

It's been fun, but this place is done. I have no hatred, and appreciate the good times. But this place now belongs to Tony and his pink mini.

Condemns those who insult others as he actively insults the majority. Mocks those who express concern of the demise of a once great forum as he watches it burn and throws gasoline on the fire. Calls people dumb for having strong opinions when in the same thread he references he touts that his opinion (wrong as can be factually) is actually better than theirs. Then accuses people of calling him Hitler just so he can feel like a victim.

Poor you, Jemal. Since you love that you're so accessible, why don't you post your address so I know where to send the Midol.

Just because I blame you for the majority of the issues here doesn't, in fact, mean I think you're important in any way.

Wait I don't think Big Al was talking about banning himself!!  It's just his 'signature' below his comment!

No worries Jim. your jacket is safe! I know very well that your sense of humor is fully intact!  But, I don't foresee the litigation getting to the point that even lawyers could do much with opinion on the internet!  I mean as we all know, if you read it on the internet, it must be true!  Just today I saw a quote from Trump, allegedly from People Magazine back in 98, talking about how easy it would be to run as a Republican, because they are by far the dumbest group of voters in the country, easily convinced to vote against their own interests!  That sounds like a true quote, doesn't it? It must be... it was on the internet!

There now, is it any wonder that we the people face such a comical choice for the leader of the free world in a few months?  You people are ready to bash heads in over opinions about a stupid little car! Even my trying to bring back a little perspective has some of you declaring me the Hitler of the Mini world! Yet all of you know exactly who I am, how to reach me, and where I work every day (hmmm, I should say "for now", as apparently I have presided over the demise of this forum, oh dear).  Oh hello again Mtymous!  How many times have you stomped your feet and tantrumed out of here because we're all such a waste of your time?  (yes Alex, I did just sort of turn "tantrumed" into a verb, but it makes the point!)   But welcome back as always!   We share fun and opinions about the best ways to fix a primitive little car!  But I must warn you, some people feel so strongly about the best way to adjust a carburetor, or how to shut off a car that wants to keep chugging, that they quickly begin to insult others who are also sharing their free opinions! Yes, we're talking about a car that was designed... oh, 60 years or so ago.  It's an amazing thing to contemplate, how quickly the anonymity of this setting has some people descending the evolutionary ladder, resorting to insults and threats against others who are also here for the fun and frivolity of owning a little car that generates smiles everywhere it goes.

Oh, as for finding IP addresses? I can't think of a single thing less important in life than "tracking down" some of you evil trolls posting false or idiotic information about how to fix old cars! Damn I have to go.... I have a hangnail on my second smallest toe of my left foot. Makes it annoying to shift the Moke....

Where is the logic in that? Can anyone here remember Jemal ever stepping in and saying, enough, that's wrong information? Possibly detrimental to the safety and running of your car.
If this is truly a Democratic forum, then lets have a Vote on whether this Clown should be banned permanently. I'd rather have Cup Cake on here than this abomination.  Jim
There now, do you feel better about yourself Jimatalba!   Perhaps it's actually a good sign, that something so insignificant can bunch up your panties!  It probably means you have very few REAL problems in life!!  Congratulations!
Hi Jemal, As you surmise correctly, I have very few real problems with my life. Solvent, healthy, good woman, enjoying retirement, and always up for a laugh as anyone who knows me will agree. I don't spend all day on MM, unlike the Numpty from the Paddies.
Considering what a Litigation Society America is, wouldn't it be ironic if this Tube caused some Newbie to repair his Mini in such a way that it caused an accident out on a Freeway. Hmmm...I can just see the Lawyers lining up to apportion blame, after the cause is established to come from info gleaned from "Expert" on MM forum. Especially as the Forum administrators knew of this wrong info being given out beforehand, and did nothing to head off the potential fallout.
I'll get my jacket now.  Jim

hahaha, that's correct, Sir Dan replies "wrong again" on all opinions that he doesn't agree with. it's doesn't mean the opinion is wrong, he just doesn't agree with it.   i don't  take it against him, it's human nature that everyone always wants his opinion to be the right one more than the other...  it's ok, i still love sir Dan.
Sheesh... "Wrong Again". I do not reply that way to ANY opinions. I only reply that way to YOUR posts when they contain wrong information posing as fact.

Oh, and DO NOT POST your IP address anywhere. For anyone as paranoid as you, that would be absolute suicide, and still a really bad idea for anyone else.  (I imagine you'd probably get it wrong anyway.)

If the suggestion for the general forum population is to "let it go,"then I would suggest you do the same.

An address is how things are located whether it is a street address or an internet protocol address.
I think the phrase you are searching for is "Wrong Again".

Very basically,
IP Addresses are assigned by (or through) your Internet Service Provider.  it is the address the millions of internet servers and routers use to get messages to your home or work - as tmsmith suggests. That gets it TO your modem, not your router. Your modem passes data to your router (which may be in the same unit). Your router then assigns addresses to all the devices you have that it is connected to - your computer, your tablet, your cell phone's data access, your smart TV, your printers. Since routers assign addresses and are all pretty much the same functionally,  and have to abide by protocols for addresses, they all pretty much start with the address "192.168.1.1" b(or something similar). So if you've installed just one computer on your router, chances are it has that address, unless you did something specific to select an address. But don't panic - that's the address only within your local area network (LAN), and nobody can see it if you have a firewall up. You can even unplug from the internet, and your LAN will continue to function between your devices.
