Yep, what they said. The five speeds were not so good but the Getrag six speeds are much better. Hunt down a 2005-2006 Getrag because the ratios are a bit better for normal driving. Google this. There are a couple of good articles about the swap.

Getrag is a German manufacturer of the 6-speed transmission. They supply transmissions many makes and models.

I have a 2005 Mini Cooper Base with a CVT Transmission, I plan on upgrading to a manual 6 speed, and was doing some research on transmissions and noticed that some of them are referred to as Getreg. I did not understand what that meant? If anyone has info on this it would be much appreciate, also if you have any knowledge on a better alternative that would be great.
