I found the noise. It was the brake pads. I did also discover my shock was loose as well. Thanks for the help guys! Glad it was an easy fix.

Yes jack it up on the sub frame somewhere solid and you are right the two plates on each side are not jacking points but were used on the production line before the car was completely assembled.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

Thanks guys! I'll let you know. I'm new to the Mini scene and have a lot to learn. Is the sub frame the only safe spot to jack up the front end? Hard to get my floor jack and a jack stand to fit. I know there is a reinforced plate under the floor below the door hinges area but the one on my car is dented in and I don't trust it.

Make sure the large cv nut is torqued up to spec.

US
pull the tire and look for a rock jammed into the disc dust cover (rear side of the disc)

look for anything bent, or maybe the cv boot tie has come undone and is whacking the frame or gearbox.

Is it a MK 3  S?

Good morning. I have a 70 mini 1300 and lately i have noticed a loud clicking sound when I am rolling up to a stop sign. It is differently coming from the right (clutch) side of the car. The clutch is only a few months old. I was thinking maybe the CV joint but my experience with CV joints (Japanese cars) is that you can tell they are bad when you hear clicking when turning. Mine is doing it in a straight line. I'm not sure if it is constantly doing it because of car/road noise but when stopping it is always there. Doesn’t matter if the clutch is in or out or with the car in & out of gear.
Thanks for all the great info. I'm pretty new to the Mini scene and can use some help from the experts.
