Our AUS 1964 Cooper has the VIN plate fixed to the firewall in the area of the two holes above the master cylinders. And just below that the last four numbers of the VIN are stamped into the firewall.

Black engine compartment. Again, will have to wait for the OZ group to check in, but I don't remember ever seeing black engine compartments on factory built Mk I Minis. Completely stripped and repainted sometime? Car wrecked early in its life and a new shell (with new painting) installed?

Also, everything in the engine compartment is satin black.  There was no body color under the black.  What years of Mk1 production would this have been the case?

The cross member looks correct for an early car. Funny I have a late car with nearly the same opening in the shop. A BMW mini service manager offered to install a Weber and had that area opened up. I found the removed section yesterday. They did a nice job cutting it out so a single blade width is all that's missing. Will have it tig welded back in place. Will be running twin HIF 38s on this one. Steve (CTR)

An enthusiastic previous owner ..with a large can opener.... and definitely non-standard.

We will have to wait for the OZ crowd to chime in, but that looks more like someone wanted to run Weber carbs and made the enlargement -- not something "factory."

Fellow Minioids,  I am trying to identify this Mk1 Mini.  Is this bulkhead period correct for an Aussie Mk1 circa 1967? What years did they make the semi-octagonal dash opening?  Thanks!
