Being commercial vehicles, they just used the nearest fork lift truck.

What did the early vans use that had non fluted, smooth outer sills?  ( no jack hole )

onetim:

With deference to all (most) previous posts, I have recently unearthed two "A" frame jacks, one with a straight pin, one with an "L" pin. Yours for postage. EM in profile.

Cheers,

Specialist, I know what a scissor jack looks like. It was extended too much. Have fun with yours

The $20 scissor jacks are fine but really need a small square plate welded to the top when using them on a Mini. Better still for a little more money the small inexpensive small duty floor jacks work well.

I cant imagine how a scissor jack can fail, you need to strip the thread badly in order for it to fail, and it will not fall abruptly  unlike the hydraulic jack when it loose it's pressure due to bad oil seal.

Caution with scissor jacks. I had my mini fall off one, mostly extended, on a flat garage floor. Just touched the wall ever so slightly...a 2 inch x 1 inch scuff on the paint but I will never use one again. I have been using the regular T jack but after reading Alex's post I think I will throw a floor jack in the boot...I need something to take up some room back there. As I remember Stag (RIP) had one back there for his long distance trips.

Caution with scissor jacks and Minis. Make sure they are small enough to fit under the car when the wheel is flat, and yet big/tall enough to hold the car up high enough to change a tire without being stretched out too far.

scissor jack is the most ideal.  it never fails, unlike the bottle jack and other jacks that works with hydraulics , there's a big chance of failing. But whatever jack you use, always jack the car in the proper jacking points....if you know where i'm getting at.,i don't need to post picture, i know everyone here has enormous amount of common sense.

except for one,,ooops!

I carry a small floor jack, but have carried a small scissor jack as well in the past.

+1 for scissors jack. New ones are not expensive.

Guess that's better than don't know jack.

Another vote for the scissor jack.

I've never liked the stock mini jack.  Any junkyard will have small scissor jacks by the bushel and cheap.  I got mine for $10.

I haven't used a std issue Mini jack since my brother and I changed a flat on my Mums car in the early 80s (I must have been about 7 or 8) and wouldn't trust one now if you paid me !!

Maybe a freshly rebuilt car or a timewarp barn find would have strong enough sills and jacking points, but nothing I've seen in the last 15 years would be strong enough... tinworm just loves to work it's evil in there...

Similarly, though I carry an aftermarket scissor jack I'd much prefer to have a small trolley jack on board (room in the boot of Betty precludes it, but Tubbs has one) and both require the use of a travel axle stand - just in case.

Well I can easily find a union jack door handle, but have a really hard time finding a jack handle for a mini. I should have the A frame jack, but instead I have the T version, which is fine, but I need the handle, and the lug nut socket and bar. I would not think this is rare, but could be unsafe. Thoughts?
