Nick Upton informed me that terminal 1 and 7 have the same output in all switch positions.
So no problem exists in leaving the wires configured as they came from AutoSparks/British Wiring.

Chuck:
What about the wires that are combined?
According to the diagrams I have one of the wires labeled as 1 in the image should be connected to number 2 and these two, the rear lights and the instrument panel lights should be connected to terminal 1 of the switch.
Currently 2 and 3 are the same piece of wire.

The only difference you should find on the front is that the U.S. cars used the turn signal as the "parking light" (a.k.a. running light), too, instead of the parking light being a separate bulb in the headlight.

Ran across this redrawn diagram on the MiniForum.
It shows a different lighting connection for USA export cars.
I have never seen that on a diagram and I believe I have the workshop manual this was redrawn from.

Not sure that link will work.

So the old harness matches the diagram with the panel lights and rear lights being fed on the same circuit from terminal one.
And the old harness also has the panel light switch feed coming from below the parcel shelf. So where does this wire come back through the parcel shelf, in through the main harness pass-through or a separate hole in the parcel shelf?

I am trying to sort out a new harness with the light switch.
here is the diagram from this site:
//www.minimania.com/images/wiring/PDFs/wiring01.pdf
I attached another close up picture.
On the diagram, two wires are shown attached to terminal 1. One feeds the panel lighting switch and the other feeds the rear tail lights.
One wire is attached to terminal 7 and that feeds the front "parking/pilot" lights.
The harness I have has the front red wire feed and rear red wire feed wired together at the same terminal connector. There is a separate single red wire which I assume is the instrument panel light feed, but both ends come out of the loom under the parcel shelf where I would expect one end under the shelf for the main light switch and the other end terminating above the parcel shelf to feed the instrument panel switch.
The car is a 1965 Traveller. the new harness is from AutoSparks/British Wiring.
I guess the main question is what is the difference between terminal 7 and terminal 1?
