I drive my desiel motor home at 60 all over Calif.  Truck speed is 55 and all the semi's run 60 all day.  You won't get run over by them.

70 is no problem.  30 odd years ago a friend and I flat towed his 67 S from Chicago to Md behind a Volvo turbo.  We would be doing 70 by the time we hit the end of the freeway service area exits....

Cheers Ian

Hehe yeah people drive pretty fast out here.  Driving at a safe 55 I would be getting run off the road by angry truckers going 70.

My new car trailer cost more than most of the minis we own. When I was a kid, sometimes we would acquire a new to us mini and my dad would take the day off of work and pull me out of school, we would hit the road with our single axle car hauler and bring the car home from wherever it happened to be. I suppose all of those awesome memories have had an effect, I could not imagine having someone else haul a car home for me. But it has been 20 years since I pulled a trailer in California, perhaps Modern highways would quickly change my romantic ideas.

The thought has crossed my mind, no doubt.  I have a 96 Tahoe I can borrow from a family member but the cost of gas on filling the thing, plus cost of rental trailer and fees would be over $200...quotes thus far are between $300-400.  There's something to be said for paying someone else to deal with the 7 hour round trip drive and have the car fully insured along the way.

Blimey after driving up to buy it I would have towed it home on a dolly? You could still do that even if you had to rent a truck and trailer from a Rental place it would probably be cheaper and you'd have an adventure story to go with the new toy? Where is Medford Ca? the only Medford I know is in Oregon and a lot longer than 3.5 hours from LB?

Mini's are like buses they come along in a bunch

So I've been fiending for a new fun car to drive since my 75 mini got totaled out, and have been eyeing bugeye sprites on BAT for the last few months.  Finally pulled the trigger this week and picked up a '59 for just over 10K that is a good drivers car (not fully restored, but solid).  Here's a link

//bringatrailer.com/listing/1959-austin-healey-bug-eye-sprite-3/

Working now on arranging for shipping from Medford, CA to Long Beach, CA, which is kind of a nerve wracking experience for me.  Seems like most companies have some good and bad reviews due to the way the brokering works (most had good reviews for the broker, and a few bad reviews were for the actual transporter).  The only company that seemed to have no poor reviews was 4 Corners Transport, so I'm considering going through them.  Anyone have any other suggestions?

I did the long 3.5 hour drive up to Medford to pay the seller, inspect, and take a drive in the car.  For a car that had been sitting for 15 years, it ran surprisingly decent with a fresh oil change and 4 new gallons of new gas. No smoking or anything, but it felt really sluggish (gummed up carb?).

So, I'm also wondering if anyone can recommend any good British car mechanics in the Long Beach/Northern Orange County/Southern LA county area that can help to dial in the car's engine and do the alignment? I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that I've never learned to do valve adjustments, timing, carb rebuilding and tuning and the like. My mini's engine was mechanically sorted when purchased, so in 10 years only really needed the occasional oil change, spark plugs, sorting out the occasional electrical issues, and a bit of an adjustment to the single carb (super easy since it really only had one adjustment).

I saw that near me there is British European Auto in San Pedro, and British Connection in Bellflower.  Was also considering calling Heritage to see if they do bugeyes, but they are a bit further from my house than some of the ones I mentioned.  Anyone dealt with any of the shops mentioned or know of anyone else nearby that's good with the sprites?
