I talked to an importer in Kent WA outside of Seattle about getting a Mini from Japan before I found mine in Idaho. They want to start importing them but don't have the clients lined up and don't want to waste time or space on something they may not be able to sell. They are constantly importing Skylines and other cars. Inventory turns quick with them.
Check them out and send a Facebook message or email. They respond pretty quickly and might be able to help you out.

The customs are getting harder to deal with. I agree with Werewolf. I feel it is from so many morons trying to bring in skylines that are still illegal age wise.

It would help if your location was known. Canada has a 15 year old rolling exemption, whereas the USA has a 25 year old rolling one. Except California, which is a law unto itself.
its NOT as hard to Import a 25 year old Mini from Japan as some would have you believe. I brought one into JAX, direct from Japan 2 years ago, and it sailed through Customs. As long as everything is as it should be, then they will allow entry.
Contrary to what most people believe, Maintaining their Minis is very low on Japanese priorities. Don't buy an Automatic, as they are fragile if not maintained religiously. Expect the usual defects, Steering Racks, Flat Cones, Cracked Tyres,Cracked Window Seals, Burst Gaiters on Track Rod Ends, and CV Joints. Even with all this, they are still better value than a bodged UK Rustbucket.

Hey everyone, I'm just gunna get into it. I want to buy a classic Japanese Rover Mini. I was wondering if you guys could give me some information on finding the car I want, as I've been having trouble finding info on this anywhere. I do know general things about importing a car if need be, but any help with that is welcome. I currently live in the US and from what I've seen it's not super hard to do this. Again, ANYTHING would help as I don't have much info and it's only my friend and I doing this. Thanks in advance.
