Many heads have been replaced to "Cooperize" the car.  Many of the 12G940 heads have the bypass fitting.  Many are rusted in so well, that it's easier to just install the hose!  Many people believe the bypass hose is a "better" set up!

I seek out the heads without the fitting.  One less likely leak in a real PIA location!!

Am I crazy?  The engine looks original, the head looks like an A+ (the heater port is not drilled, and the heater takeoff is on the thermostat housing).  But there is no denying that it also has a bypass.

Too bad, but the website won't let me post images.
My similar vintage A+ has the PITA bypass hose.

In my opinion you're not crazy... at least no worse than the rest of us. As for the by-pass.... ?
