The car was a very solid with no previous accident damage. The car was very original but had not been driven much. Car had been repainted black with a black vinyl interior.

Great job.  I wish I could say a restoration only took 3 years.  That is a very cool car.  How was the car when you started?

Steve, The casing would have been an 846. It is identical to the 1128. Depending on when it was done, it is entirely possible that I supplied our host with the tranny. I sent them 2 remote boxes earlier this year, but you're right, those are getting very hard to find.

Congratulations, looks great!  Just out of curiosity, did you have to deal with Super Storm Sandy damage, in addition to the "normal" restoration?

Nick, to be up front I did not build the tranny. It is a 4 synchro and the magic wand diff. cover was grafted to it. Our host supplied the tranny and the casting number was 8 something, a casting I had not seen. I have used 1128 casting as supplied for AA with the sandwich plate and convert with magic wand diff. cover. As you know it takes two trannys to make one. I have built these before and will do one for my Moke. 1128 cores are getting thin. Steve (CTR)

Edit: Charlie wanted to keep the car as standard as possible. He also wants to be able drive it like a real car. I feel we were able keep the important things and make improvements he will enjoy for years to come.

I too have a cherry red '60 Morris in fine original condition (but with a black wheel). I'm happy you kept the straight magic wand and am interested which 4 syn box Steve mated it up to. Was is the 1128 remote type casing but using the wand diff housing ?

Clearly and outstanding effort by someone loving what they are doing. I'd have to check my notes but I started hearing from Charlie very early in the process. We talked on the phone and he had me on the look out for rare bits he would be needing. 59 s and early 60 s have down pull chokes. Sorting his carb. and linkage was the first job I did for him. We talked maybe two years about the engine build. We priced a 1275, std 998, hot 998, baby cooper S 998 with 11 stud 940 head. A std 850 and a hot 850 build were considered. After much discussion a well thought out mild 850 was decided on. As I'm sure we all know early 850s have small tail wet cranks. The also don't have three cam bearing and do have coil spring clutch. A large tail crank, light steel flywheel, light back plate, two part Cooper S balancer were sourced and balanced. Rods and pistons balanced as well. Block bored, honed, cleaned pre assembled  piston to deck measured and sent for finial surface cut. Cam bearings and brass freeze /core plugs. Cyl head got guides all valves springs caps and keepers converting to last generation of lead free 998 parts. The cam is a MG Metro with std rockers with new shaft and pedestals removing the alloy early ones that did not keep head torque. New head studs, oil pump and convert from 850 simplex to 998 simplex with tensioner and Iwis chain. Using NOS piston Charlie source on the web I was able to get C/R up to 9.5. We had issues with hid early dizzy and replaced with the next generation which looks same but is a better unit. Once curved correctly idle and off idle response cleared up.

I held Charlie off three days picking his engine up due to a one drop 24 hours oil leak. Took me awhile to trace it to lower bolt on starter. You tell me how that happens.

It actually looks better in person. It was painted to match the grill and the little off-white switch plate. I thought it added a little personality. Everything else in the car is done to duplicate an original car. So I felt I needed to do something to give it a little Personal Touch. BTW, engine done by Cooper Tune.
