"I didn't know they did an "Export" model in '71. Does it have the 1275? Doesn't have 'roo bars?"

Yes Australia made an Export Moke way back then. It had a 1275, drum brakes and a Sprite fuel tank in the rear subframe. No big Californian bars just one horizontal piece of pipe for the bumpers.

Thank you all for the input. I followed up on the suggestions and am confident that with your help I have found the right shop that do the restoration that this car deserves.

Not sure if you are referring to me but it is definitely the Aussie Moke i was asked about when it was first purchased (before it was ever advertised) what it was worth and also asked if i was interested in buying it, i was but not for the amount he was asking at the time. I got all this from a friend of the guy who bought it from the long term owner who bought it back to Florida from St Barts. It sat in his garage for many years in a non running state. When the new owner bought it he cleaned it up sorted out some wiring issues and got it running then sold it on even though he had always wanted a Moke, i heard he wanted the money/profit more than the Moke for some other projects. It was also advertised somewhere maybe here and or Facebook.

Trust me there are not two Mokes around with those seats and body color i am not mistaken.

Not that any of this matters you have a good solid shell good luck with the restoration.

southernmostmoke    why would you  NOT want  a choke?  they have gavi shells.. will NOT rust..  new paint new interior and rebuild engines in the 2 nd generations one.. like mini movers CLEMSON orange one..   and in my Third  generation.. they have NEW chery EPA approved  engines with 1100 cc DOHC.   Do NOT knock it until you have seen one in person and driven it..  lets look at this way..  would you rather have  a PHAT . old rusty woman  that is very TIRED..  and can NOT do it  anymore.OR   a nice new model that skin fits..and ready to go out and do the nasty 24 hours a day.. and with HUGE headlights..  later bc  ps check out www.mokeinternational.com and www.mokeamerica.com

No contact info in your profile. Mine should be in my profile. With the passing of two of my resources I'm finding it hard to find and expensive to have body and paint work done. Contact me and I will share what I have learned in the last six months trying to replace support. Steve (CTR)

I am looking for constructive help. Overly expensive does not equate to cheap. I own and operate a largish marine business so I am not unfamiliar with what good work costs. The electrical entails finish installing the new loom and troubleshooting the ground fault. I would like to find someone that could oversee go through all functioning mechanicals, minor restoration new paint, dash, seats and other accessories. where structurally all metal is sound and mechanically operational. I do appreciate any and all guidance and no i am not interested in a Chinese Moke. Thank you!

Replace the harness you will be way ahead of the game, the PO bought it as a non runner and as i remember the battery had been hooked up backwards and messed up the wiring i was told. I remember the Moke coming up for sale last year but he was too high on his price for what work needed to be done imo. Just because a car sits for an extended period it does not help things everything needs to be gone through thoroughly.

southernmostmoke..  well NO ONE is going to work for $5 an hour..to fit your TINY budget...  itis  more like $150 per hour for resto work.. btw. I looked at the moke couple years ago..  it was a nightmare.. I passed on buying it.. as it needed $15k to just to sell it at $15k.. Dion is your man in florida at DJ minis..  but  he is NOT good at answering the phone.  and offering advise for FREE.. No resto shop will do this..  you might be better off to just sell and buy PROPER running moke..  later bill cox MBA lic NC dealer and bonded US CUSTOMS importer with TWIC , SCAC, and ACE.. www.montecarlomini.com   1.704.487.6406

Morning Al, I was reluctant to offer names ( or was it I just couldn't remember names this morning ) not knowing what overly expensive is. I have come to believe if you get what you pay for, you have gotten a bargain. These things don't get any easier to work on. And the longer they are around the better chance a mess has already been made.

Perhaps this is as good as any place. Since 1974 I worked with a guy who worked for C&P telephone. He just loved stripping a loom and tracing wires and faults. This past Nov. 7th Bill suffered a heart attack and this was the big one. He was found dead in his shop the following day. My interior guy who has not taken a new customer in 20 years also passed this spring.

Am I looking over my shoulder? Is it maybe time to down size? Steve (CTR)
