well. turns out one of the mokes had color change and did NOT right year of manufacture.on the V 5 .  So I REFUSED to ship it.. and other is NOT coming to the USA..  seem owner is going to keep in the UK.   he was bitching about all the fees that go along with loading a container in london and then back to port..  export doc fees and even our 2.5 % import duty . It seems  Ex brits for the most part thing importers  ALSO work for FREE..   later bc

At the time I was doing RORO for about $750. Checked on container prices and was supposed to be under 3 large. Anyway, both containers (shipped a year apart) got impounded by US Customs and USDA when they arrived. We had collected old mattresses to stuff around the cars for protection against banging into stuff and if the sawhorses failed. Evidently they x-rayed the container and I got dinged for not listing the 20+ mattresses on my inventory. I explained they were padding, but they still had a declared value for tax purposes. Oh yeah, old mattresses tend to have livestock in them so the USDA wanted to fumigate everything. By the end of it all (fumigation, demurrage, etc) the total cost was close to 5 large. Still cheaper but more headaches. The second one we used scaffolding instead of wood, and also did not ship mattresses. On that one I still got scrutinized because someone turned me in for possible violations. Demurrage again, but close inspection yielded no violations. They did however, decide my vehicles were dirty and again the USDA stepped in and made me pay to steam clean every car plus the container. It was a long hot day, ending close to midnight. Again, total cost was just shy of 5 large. After that I stuck with RORO. But it is possible to put 8 in a container. Oh yeah, we did let the air out of the 12" tires for clearance, but the 10's were not a problem.

Many years ago i bought a Mini over in a 20 foot container with another Mini stacked at 30 degrees or so above it. After i told the guy/seller to ship it RORO he used a container and the wood 2x12 support was dropped damaging my wings and bonnet. No one wanted responsibility i ended up getting $500.00 back for repairs after 6 months of negotiating and harassing them and was lucky enough to get a dent wizard to repair it all for $380.00.
The biggest expense was the fees they attach to containers it cost me roughly $1400.00 more to ship it that way.

I used 45' sub 40'. What that meant was I could get a 45' container for the same price as a 40' if I guaranteed I wouldn't use the entire space, i.e. no more cubage than the 40'. On the first one we built 8 sawhorses out of 2x6 lumber. Put Minis on a flatbed pickup and backed into the container. Assembled 2 sawhorses under the Mini and drove the flatbed out. Then we drove a Mini underneath it and started the process again. LWB cars were stacked together as was saloons. 8 cars, easy peasey!

Most Minis I've ever been able to get into a 40' High Cube Container, was 6.  Believe me I would have squeezed more in if possible. Swine to get the top one at the rear out.

Reminds me of the containers I used to ship in with 8 Minis inside. Did that twice, even had some Vans, Wagons, and Pickups in there as well.

Why two 20's instead of one 30' or 40' ?

hi dan.. funny thing, I hated riding in a moke 20 years ago.. but mini mover got me turned around in the right direction.. as it is about ALL I do now for imports. is mokes/chokes..  later bc  ps.. I did NOT sell either one of these UK mokes.. just importing them for my clients..   

Bill, I did realize that if you were bringing two Mokes over from the UK, they'd have to be pretty special cars. Which is why I included the smiley!

dan..  well. because each moke was $40K resto alone. and I did NOT even suggest to the two owners of doing this..I even have to pick up with enclosed trailer on them..   I stack the chokes all the time coming from china.. but they build proper Metal frame for this.. 

Bill: I was wondering why you originally were putting one Moke in each 20' container. Weren't Mokes originally designed to be stackable?
